After Jesus was raised from the dead, the Bible records that,

“…He showed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God.” (Acts 1:3, emphasis added)

Risking Prey Status 1

The fact that Jesus talked with His followers concerning the “kingdom of God” means (among other things) that He was revealing to them the warfare between the two kingdoms in this world:  That God is the rightful owner of this earth, and thus, the rightful ruler of this earth.  But there is one who has set himself against that Kingdom belonging to God, and tried to usurp its power.  That one is satan, called in the Bible, the adversary of God.  Thus, Jesus was equipping His followers with the understanding that we walk in a constant warfare in this earth.  This warfare engulfs everything in this world from:  Whether a person will come to Christ by surrendering his will and receiving Him as Master; to whether God or satan will control civil government—the greatest natural power on earth.

We’re seeing this warfare over who will rule in civil government happen in a big way right now in Alabama.  The race for U.S. Senate between Judge Roy Moore and Doug Jones is Continue reading

Thankful for Biblical Civil Systems 1

In 1623 the Pilgrims celebrated a time of Thanksgiving with their Indian friends, Chief Massasoit and his Wampanoag tribe.  The Pilgrims were grateful to God for their Indian friends.  The peace treaty into which they had entered helped both peoples to go on with their daily lives in an ordered manner.  This is, of course, the purpose of civil law; to protect the God-given rights of life, liberty, and property.  When this is done, the resulting order allows society’s institutions to function without the interruption of chaos.  The Pilgrims’ Pastor, John Robinson, had taught them that this order flowed from Biblically based civil government, and thus, the first thing they did when they arrived was to write the Mayflower Compact; which instituted this type of government.  I believe their new civil government was one of the things they were most thankful for on those first Thanksgiving Days.

And the Pilgrims’ new civil government was working.  Their original economic system failed because it was Continue reading

When discussing civil government, people have a lot of different ideas as to what is needed to fix our broken governments.  But actually, the fix is quite simple.  We need to recognize that government is God’s institution, and that it takes statesmen to operate it the way God intended it to work.

Needed- Statesmen 1When statesmen, not politicians, are in office, deeds consistent with the Word of God are the normal thing.  Now it’s true, we haven’t seen very many of those people in office for a very long time—nearly a hundred years now.  So where do we go for a comparison?  How can we know if someone is a statesman, instead of a politician?  Let me first describe the difference.

A politician is one who is skilled in how to get things done in government.  This oftentimes takes the shape of manipulation or bribery.  A statesman is one who stands in the gatherings of government and states the truth about issues.  He stands for the truth no matter what the cost to him or his position.  Because his great desire is Continue reading

Good and Bad has happened in the political realm in America recently.  Judge Roy Moore won the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate special election to be held in December.  Since the 1990s, Judge Moore has stood for truth like no other politician in this nation.  I believe God has honored Himself by justifying His own statesman in this race.  This is the good news for America.

Admit It: Liberty Has Enemies 1The bad news is Bernie Sanders is spearheading a plan to put every American under the national government concerning medical care.  And I do mean “under”!  It would give the national government complete control of every area of our lives by the mandate it would set up.  This is not surprising, since Bernie Sanders classifies himself as a socialist.  This is what socialism does.  It enthrones a few government officers at the top of an all-powerful national government and enslaves every other citizen in a nation.  It completely takes away the choice of the citizen to control their life, as God planned it.  It is the ultimate fruit of the idea that we own these lives instead of God; and that “some are made to rule, others are made to be ruled”, as Aristotle taught.  We were made by God to serve Him.  We will do that, or ultimately we will become enslaved to a man (a dictator), and serve him.  The Bible teaches it…and history proves it!  The Scripture says,

“He that soweth to the flesh will, of the flesh, reap corruption…” (Galatians 6:7)

So what can we Continue reading

The Greatest Need in America 1With more disrespect being shown to our flag, even within our own borders, it would do us well to revisit our heritage! Fort McHenry (where in 1812 a battle raged which inspired Francis Scott Key to write The Star Spangled Banner) was named after a man who served as a medical soldier in George Washington’s army, and later signed the U.S. Constitution. His name was James McHenry. While unknown to us today, James McHenry was one of those men who laid such a firm foundation for America that during the 1800s it would grow to become the greatest nation on earth. James McHenry got his foundation from the Bible. In addition to his achievements just mentioned, he also served as a member of the Continental Congress, his state legislature, and the U.S. Secretary of War—and President of the Baltimore Bible Society! He had this to say about the Bible:

“…public [usefulness] pleads most forcibly for the general distribution of the Holy Scriptures. The doctrine they preach, the obligations they impose, the punishment they threaten, the rewards they promise…can alone secure to society, order and peace, and to our courts of justice and constitutions of government, purity, stability and usefulness.

“In vain, without the Bible, we increase penal laws and draw entrenchments around our institutions. Bibles are strong entrenchments.”

He then Continue reading

Threatened by a powerful enemy, King Hezekiah of Judah did what any ruler should do:  He first sought the face of God, crying out to Him for deliverance.  Hezekiah prayed,

When Other Nations Threaten 1

“…O LORD God of Israel…thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; thou hast made heaven and earth…open, LORD, thine eyes, and see: and hear the words of Sennacherib…[which] reproach the living God…O LORD our God, I beseech thee, save thou us out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the LORD God, even thou only.” (2 Kings 19:15-19)

And God sent an angel who killed 185,000 Assyrian soldiers in one night!

With the ongoing threats by the North Korean dictator of attacking America with a nuclear warhead, our first response should be the same.  We should pray, asking God to intervene and preserve peace.  Many, many believers here, and around the world, are doing just that.

But what if Continue reading

The Bible tells the story of Nehemiah, the civil leader who rebuilt Jerusalem after the Jews had been captive many years in Persia.  In a time when the enemies of God had been trying to discourage the Jews from finishing the work God had called them to, Nehemiah exhorted them:

“…Be not ye afraid of them: remember the Lord, which is great and [awesome], and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses.” (Nehemiah 4:14)

America’s Christian Founding(Part 2) 1

The spiritual and natural enemies of the Gospel of the Kingdom of Christ have been trying for a hundred years to discourage Americans from knowing their history.  They knew if they could disconnect us from our past, they could steal from us the reason God birthed this nation; which was to be a vessel of liberty by which to take that Gospel to the world.  It only Continue reading

The last thing Jesus said to His followers was,

“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:  Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you…” (Matthew 28:19-20)

Let’s pick up from the book Why God Birthed America what happened.  I quote:

“Over the next three hundred years, they became carriers of Jesus to others all over the world (2 Corinthians 6:16b).  So much so that it’s estimated that before the fifth century, half the known world had heard of Jesus.  Multiplied thousands were becoming what God had created them to be—a channel of His life.  The impact of this release of Christ’s life through believers affected every part of the culture.

Man’s Hope—Being God’s Earthsuit (Part 2) 1“The fraudulent Roman courts began to be replaced by a Christian court system, the decisions of which people voluntarily accepted because it was so much more just than the Roman courts.  Justice reigned among believers, which brought order to their subculture, in stark contrast to the growing anarchy in Roman society.

“Some Christians began to advance even in the government.  Their attitude that they were the people’s servants, instead of their masters, cast a new standard for government service.  A few were Continue reading

Repeal, Not Replace 1One of the things I’ve learned about walking with the Lord is that, when we’re missing Him on something He’s leading us to do, He’ll let us try over and over until we finally give up, and listen to His plan.  This seems to be what He’s let the U.S. Senate do concerning a so-called “health care bill”.  After struggling for months trying to create a new government funded medical insurance law that would replace Obamacare, they’ve finally admitted they can’t.  And hopefully they are now willing to cancel entirely the law called Obamacare!  This would, presumably, return us to the form of socialized medicine we had in 2008; which wasn’t good, but was a lot less government control than we had with Obama’s communistic system.  Hopefully, we’re now on the road to rejecting ALL government funded health care (though I wouldn’t expect this anytime soon)!

How do we get out of this quicksand of socialized medicine?  We can only Continue reading

The Bible says, “Remember those who led you…” (Hebrews 13:7)  Yet, in America we’ve forgotten what those who founded this nation were like.  We no longer know how they thought or what they did.  Someone has truthfully described us as having “national amnesia”.

John Adams: Example of Founders’ Thinking 1The great danger in a nation forgetting its past is that they will lose the foundational ideas that made that nation great.  We’re missing out on the inspiration provided by the stories of our ancestors who did amazing things to birth, grow, and protect America.  Worse still, we’re missing the interventions by God Himself so that we no longer credit Him with America’s existence.  Thus we lose the very Strength Who has brought the good to us which we now enjoy.

A renowned minister, A.W. Foljambe, spoke great wisdom when he said in 1876:

“The more thoroughly a nation deals with its history, the more decidedly will it recognize and own an over-ruling Providence [in it], and the more religious a nation [it will] become; while the more superficially it deals with its history, seeing only secondary causes and human agencies, the more irreligious will it be.”

One of the greatest ways to rediscover our past is simply Continue reading
