Reasoning

Think About It Blog

Why do we make so many mistakes in life?  How can it be we are so deceived about so many things?  It all has to do with our reasoning processes…

When Noah Webster wrote our first American Dictionary in 1828, he defined the word reason as “to deduce inferences justly from premises. Brutes do not reason; (he wrote) children reason imperfectly.”

A premise he defines as “a first or antecedent proposition.”  In other words, it’s the foundational idea.  In reasoning (to deduce inferences justly) we either state a conclusion based on the foundational idea we know; or we examine ideas we know, in order to find the foundation idea on which they are based.

In the former we show what can be expected because of what we know.  In other words, because we know a root, we can predict the fruit.  We call this inductive reasoning.  In the latter, we trace back through the ideas or events we do know (the “fruit”), in order to discover what we do not know (the “root”).  We call this deductive reasoning.

So where did reasoning, itself, come from?

It came from the God who made us.  He thinks this way.  He stated in Isaiah 1:18, “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD…”  Continue reading

This is the moment…

As God raised up Queen Esther for “such a time as this,” you and I, as the people of God are here now for “such a time as this.”  If we will go to the polls and vote Biblical standards today, Barack Obama and his socialist regime will be removed from office.  The last election for President was decided by less than 10 million votes:  But, 75 million people who say they’re born again did not even go to the polls and vote!  Mr. Obama was elected because the church slept!  May we not give away our liberty to his socialist policies.  God help us value the liberty to share the Gospel of Christ with the next generation enough to vote against Barack Obama’s socialist government.

But the “battle is not to the strong” alone, as Patrick Henry said, it is to those who fall on their knees, humbling themselves before God and asking Him to deliver us from what we deserve; in other words, the loss of our liberties.  The battle will be won or lost in prayer.  Please, let me urge you with everything that’s in me:  pray throughout this day!  God gave me a word about two months ago which we can pray and know we’re praying His will.  It’s found in 1 Chronicles 16:35:

“Save us oh God of our salvation.  Gather us together and deliver us from the heathen, that we may give thanks to Thy holy name, and glory in Thy praise.”

Please pray this with me at many different times through the course of the day!

To sum up:

Go vote (“our solemn vow to God” as Webster defined the word “vote” in his original American Dictionary in 1828)!  Don’t let someone else decide your children’s future.  Go vote!!

Pray all day until the polls are all closed, pray that God-fearing people will go to the polls and vote Biblical values.  Then, Pray earnestly that God will watch over the vote counting so the races are decidedly honestly.  Lastly, pray for those who are praying today so that we don’t “grow weary in well doing.”

Is there a way to know a candidate’s real positions?…

Yes, there is!

If you will listen to them and compare their statements to the Word of God, you can know how they think.  This is why it is so important for us to daily read the Bible.  As we “hide its words in [our] heart,” God’s thinking grows in us.  Then, when we’re listening to or reading someone’s words an automatic comparison occurs that creates great discernment in us.

Also, if you can find someone you trust (who is a Biblical thinker) who knows the candidate personally, their discernment of that candidate can be very helpful.

One of the best ways to know what a candidate will do once in office is to read his responses to surveys presented to him by groups which work to protect the family.  Family Policy Councils – in Kentucky, two great ones are the Family Foundation (votekentucky.us) and Commonwealth Policy Center (commonwealthpolicycenter.org) – ask the kinds of questions that reveal the true thinking of candidates.  One “dead giveaway” that they are a bad candidate is if they won’t fill out the survey part that deals with the issues we face:  things like abortion, homosexuals’ effort to redefine marriage, government providing things, and gambling.  It’s my opinion that if they won’t fill out those surveys, they are hiding something they don’t want us to know; and once in office, they will support (or at least tolerate) the things the Bible is against.

Another of the very best ways to really know a candidate’s positions on issues is to find out, (if he’s previously served in office) how he’s voted before.  Outside of spiritual discernment from the Lord, this is the very best method of exposing what candidates would do in office.  We have many politicians who claim to be pro-life; but their vote against or refusal to work for Pro-life bills (like the “ultra-sound” bill in Kentucky) reveals who they really are.  And they are very likely to repeat those stands (or the lack thereof!) on moral issues.

Let’s earnestly pray that God will get His people to the polls, and open the eyes of those who will vote on Tuesday to see the true character of candidates!

The Bible says the Word of God is “a discerner of… the intents of the hearts!”

Pass it on!
