I recently had a very revealing conversation with a Pastor.  This good man, who believes and preaches the Bible to be the truth, had served as a school board member in his community for many years.  Finally, he lost an election by one vote!  Once that had happened, I wonder how many good Christian people wished they had gone to the polls to vote in that election, instead of doing something they thought was more important!  They counted on others to protect their children by re-electing him; others counted on them!

Every election in America sees half the people who say they are committed to the Bible not show up at the polls to vote.  Indeed, half that number are not even registered to vote!  They are counting on someone else to protect their children’s liberty!

In the last Presidential Election, less than 70 million votes were cast for Barack Obama.  He won the election by about 10 million votes.  Consider:  There are over 100 million Evangelicals in America—that’s people who say they’re born again and say they believe the Bible is the Book by which we should live.   Half of those are not registered to vote!  That’s 50 million who say they are God’s people who don’t even care enough about their children’s liberty to get registered so they can vote!  And perhaps what’s even worse; of the 50 million who are registered, 25 million of them do not go vote in any given election!  That’s a total of 75 million people who say they know God and want to obey Him, and yet ignore the command in the Bible to vote!  You may be thinking, “What command?”  The one in Deuteronomy 1:13!  God commanded His people through Moses to,

“Take you wise men, and understanding, and known among your…tribes, and I will make them rulers over you.”

God, through Moses would make the rulers, but the people must select them.  That’s what we do when we vote; we select the people to whom God will give the authority to rule over us.

But many Evangelicals are not involved in the political process because they simply do not believe they, or their one vote, can make that much difference.  It sure would have made a difference in the school board race I mentioned earlier.  And the numbers show plainly that Evangelicals could control any election in America if they would register and go vote.  We are listening to satan’s lies when the thought comes to our mind that we don’t make a difference!  And because of it, he is, as the Bible says, “taking advantage of us.” (2 Corinthians 2:11)  He has, by years of neglect on the part of God’s people, been destroying our liberty!

Evangelicals could easily defeat Barack Obama if they would vote for the Biblical values they say they believe.  They could even elect a third party candidate—if they would register to vote and vote for Biblical values!

James A. Garfield, our 20th President, warned us in 1876,

“If the next centennial does not find us a great nation…it will be because those who represent the enterprise, the culture, and the morality of the nation do not aid in controlling the political forces.”

(Garfield, James Abram. 1876, in a speech commemorating the centennial of the Declaration of Independence.  “A Century of Congress,” by James A. Garfield, published in Atlantic, July 1877. John M. Taylor, Garfield of Ohio – The Available Man (NY: W.W. Norton and Company, Inc.), p. 180.)

The devastating slide of our nation toward dictatorship is the responsibility of God’s people who do not vote; or who vote for candidates who do not stand where the Bible stands on issues.  And our children cry out to us as David did,

“Who will rise up for me against the evildoers? …who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity?”

(Psalms 94:16)

Are you registered to vote?  Do you vote every election?

Just who do you trust enough to count on them to protect your children’s and your grandchildren’s liberty?

Think about it; because if you don’t, someone else will do your thinking for you—and for your children!  And you won’t like what that brings to you.  I’m Don Pinson this has been Think About It.
