The Pilgrims landed in America nearly 400 years ago. But do you know why they came to America? Was it to start a new life? Well, yes. But what kind of life? Was it so they could be free? Well, yes—but what kind of freedom were they looking for? Because most of us don’t know the answer to these questions is why we continue to accept—or even vote for— more and more of the slavery from which they were fleeing.

But Why Did The Pilgrims Come1Perhaps you would say, “They came here for religious freedom.” And you would be right. But—what kind of religious freedom? Did they come merely so they could sing songs to God and study the Bible in their own gatherings? No, they came with a much broader desire than that. You see, the Pilgrims understood they must be able to create a community with institutions based in the Bible. They understood something we’ve forgotten in the last 100 years, that is, that all law is just the codification of some religious belief! In other words, civil law will either protect the right to “propagate the Gospel of the Kingdom of Christ” or it will block the “propagation of the Gospel of the Kingdom of Christ”. And there would be no middle ground. They knew there is Continue reading

The Power of the Common Man1Kentucky experienced an uprising of the common man in the recent elections of state offices. When you look at the map of how Kentucky’s counties voted, you find a general trend of the more populous counties voting for the Democrat, Jack Conway, for Governor and the less populous counties voting for the Republican, Matt Bevin. Bevin won by a 9% margin. This amazing report shows that when the common man gets out to the polls they can control the elections even though the more populated areas go for the liberal candidates. I’ve heard different people over the years make statements like, “Well, it doesn’t matter how you vote, Lexington and Louisville are going to control the elections.” Wrong! Not if the common man gets to the polls and votes! This is very encouraging because it shows us that the centers of liberal education (the cities) will not control us if we show up at the polls and vote! With the elitist educators and media tightening the noose around the neck of liberty in recent years, this ought to be a huge encouragement to freedom lovers everywhere to see that it can be thrown off! In this election, common men both in and outside of Kentucky’s cities showed their strength when voting for conservative values. This should stir us to work even harder for Continue reading

Should churches teach concerning government? The real question is: What does the Bible say about civil government? Because if something is in the Bible, we who are the teachers in the Body of Christ are under God’s call to teach it. We must declare “the whole counsel of God”. (Acts 20:27) So let’s look at what the Bible teaches concerning the reason for, and the structure and spirit of, civil government.

God’s reason for creating civil government is stated very plainly in 1 Peter 2:13-14,The Reason, Structure, and Spirit of Government1

“Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well.”

God created civil government for “the punishment of evildoers”. God knew that once we rebelled against Him in the Garden of Eden, the selfishness that entered mankind would move one man to take away the rights of another man. Thus, civil government is God’s minister to punish the one who would take away another’s “life, liberty, or [property]”. This is the only way to slow down the selfishness in man and Continue reading
