“Can Revival Happen Now?”

I often have people say to me, “Don, I just don’t believe we’re gonna have revival in America. These are the last days and I just don’t believe we’re gonna see revival.” While I certainly agree that these are the last days, I believe we should consider some other things before we just write off the possibility of a national awakening to God right here in America.

We should consider the widespread movement among college age adults. Over the last several years there have been thousands in that age group who are making commitments to Christ as the Master of every area of their lives. This is evidenced by such ministries as Passion and the Justice House of Prayer (J-HOP). Passion is centered in Atlanta and in recent years they’ve see thousands and thousands come to their meetings. From Boston to L.A., young adults have come to do serious worship, Bible Study, and intercession; and the numbers continue to grow. This is no entertainment time. “The Church – Key to a Strong Republic”

Many people wonder why America is going downhill morally. Why is there so much drug use? Why are the gangs with all their violence growing so rapidly? Why is homosexuality capturing so many of our young people? Why do so many people refuse to marry, and instead just “live” with someone? Wrong living comes from wrong thinking; and wrong thinking comes from wrong listening!

The reason for these wrong ideas was pointed out in a Barna Research Group survey taken some years ago in Kentucky. The survey revealed that, while 82% of Kentuckians said they were Christians, over a third of those surveyed said they only attended church once every six months. This poor church attendance mocks the Scriptural command to,

“Not [forsake] the assembling of ourselves together…” (Hebrews 10:25)

But perhaps you’re thinking, “What difference does it make how often someone goes to church?” It makes a lot of difference! It makes a lot of difference to an individual, a family, and a community. “Patrick of Ireland”

It is such an amazing story! Patrick, a young, former slave in Ireland, was called by God in the 400s to go share the Gospel of Christ with those same Irish people who had enslaved him just a few years before! Yet, without fear, he boldly entered again into that realm and became the agent of liberty to those who had once been his agents of slavery.

He developed this boldness because Christ had revealed Himself to him in such a living way. Patrick’s faith in Jesus was no cold orthodoxy; his was a living relationship with the living, resurrected Son of God! In Patrick’s life, Jesus was Lord! We get a glimpse of the intimacy between him and his Lord when he writes of hearing His voice. With great humility he simply states that God said to him:

“He who gave His life for you, He it is who speaks within you.”
