A few years ago a State Senator said to me, as I was urging him to stand against the uprising of homosexuals in Kentucky: “I tell you now, I just try to get along with everybody down here”, referring to people in Frankfort. I often hear young people saying what they’ve heard in school or the music of our day: “Let’s just compromise; everybody give a little so we can get along.” I wonder if this state Senator and these young people know that they have been deceived by liberal thinkers of our day into thinking that the foundation of freedom is compromise. This is not what America’s Founders believed!

Patrick Henry - Voice of Liberty 1They believed you must know the truth about every subject as the Bible revealed it. Jesus had said, “If you continue in My Word, then are you My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:31-32) Then once you knew the truth, you must stand for that truth no matter what the cost. This was true in your personal life and it was true in your state and nation. They believed that your personal moral goodness, founded in knowing Jesus Christ as your Master and Savior, was the basis of being able to stand for liberty. If you knew internal self-government of your bodily desires, then you were qualified and empowered to walk in liberty in your community and nation. Polls the last few days reveal that seventy-eight percent of Americans are dissatisfied with this present national government.  The tremendous move toward socialism is now producing what it always produces:  A falling economy and dissatisfaction among the people.

Attempting Biblical Reformation 1What should we do?  Why not return to the roots of America?  Why not return to the Biblical thinking of our Founders concerning education, economy, and government?  Indeed, the way we educate is what produces the kind of government we have.  Abraham Lincoln said it plainly:

“The philosophy of the school room in one generation will be the philosophy of government in the next.”

When the Pilgrims came here in 1620, they had learned some things that recent generations have had stolen from them. For instance, they had come to understand that the basis of the government is covenant. No state can exist very long if its citizens are not in covenant with each other.

The word covenant is defined as “a meeting or agreement of minds”. The minds of a people living under a particular government must be in agreement on the basics of life if they are to be able to walk together throughout the generations.

They must agree about Who God is, and who He says they are, and what His plan for them is, both as individuals and a nation. Without this agreement, education, commerce, and government just become Continue reading →

Who were the thinkers behind the American Revolution which would give birth to the greatest Republic the world had ever seen? Actually, men like Washington, Jefferson, or even Samuel Adams, were not the “root” thinkers of that Revolution. You may be surprised, but the truth is: It was the Pastors who inspired the thinking that brought about the American Revolution. They taught it in the churches! The Provincial Congress of Massachusetts stated in 1774:

“…we cannot but acknowledge the goodness of Heaven in constantly supplying us with preachers of the Gospel whose concern has been the temporal and spiritual happiness of this people…and do therefore recommend…that they assist us in avoiding that dreadful slavery with which we are now threatened…”

The Bible states: “Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.” (Proverbs 14:34) Thus, revealing to us the pathway to becoming a great nation. “Great” being defined as: “Providing the greatest amount of liberty for the greatest number of people” in a nation.

This is what happened in America during the first three centuries of our existence. This was proven by the fact that so many people wanted to come here. Life was simply better here than in most other countries of the world. So, the people came. They still want to, even though we’ve lost much of the “righteousness” we once walked in. During the Christmas season, much is said and sung about Jesus coming to earth. Many love the warm, gentle thoughts of a little Baby being born and having His birth announced by angels. But how many actually ever ask the question: Why did Jesus come? We can only answer that from the Bible. Because, even though there is historical evidence that Jesus did live in Palestine in the first century, the only revelation to be found concerning why He came, is to be found in the Bible.

Jesus, Himself, declared His reason for coming in Luke 19:10; there He stated,

“…the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.”

But what does lost mean? To understand that, we must first understand why God made man in the first place.

God said concerning the creation of man:

“…Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion…over all the earth…”

It was God’s intent that we should “look, live, and rule” in this earth just as He does in heaven and in earth. To do this God, Himself, would have to come to live inside us, and through us, look like Himself, live like Himself, and rule like Himself. So God gave us a choice as to whether we would let Him come to live in and through us in this world. We chose to Continue reading →

Jesus once said,

“A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.” (Matthew 12:35)

How we think inside produces our actions outside. Jesus is pointing out to us that the mind will determine what we choose, and thus, how we act. So what we put into the mind will determine the way we act.

The Pilgrims landed in America nearly 400 years ago. But do you know why they came to America? Was it to start a new life? Well, yes; but what kind of life? Was it so they could be free? Well, yes; but what kind of freedom were they looking for? Because most of us don’t know the answer to these questions is why we continue to accept—or even vote for—more and more of the slavery from which they were fleeing.

Perhaps you would say, “They came here for religious freedom.” And you would be right—but, what kind of religious freedom? Did they come merely so they could sing songs to God and study the Bible in their own gatherings? No, they came with a much broader desire than that.
