In April of 1917 the United States entered into World War I.  While all wars are caused by the selfishness of man, the desire of our people as a whole was not our own gain.  Rather, it was our desire to protect the liberty which God had entrusted to us.  And our people responded in great numbers to the request of President Woodrow Wilson to observe a Day of Public Humiliation, Prayer and Fasting on May 11, 1918.  He requested our people to:

“…humbly and devoutly…acknowledge our dependence on Almighty God and to implore His aid and protection…with religious solemnity and the offering of fervent supplications to Almighty God for the safety and welfare of our cause, His blessings on our arms, and a speedy restoration of an honorable and lasting peace to the nations of the earth…”

Our prayers “were heard and graciously answered”.  Few would argue that it was American arms which won the day for liberty in the nations of the earth and brought this mighty scourge of war to an end.  And while answered prayer cannot be scientifically proven, an honest analysis of the outcome of battles and their timing can only admit that God’s Hand was evident.

One soldier readily gave credit to the Lord for an almost unbelievable feat he accomplished in October of 1918.  In a battle in France, Corporal Alvin York’s battalion was pinned down by over 30 German machine guns. Continue reading →

It’s such an amazing story!  Patrick, a young, former slave in Ireland, was called by God in the 400’s to go share the Gospel of Christ with those same Irish people who had enslaved him just a few years before!  Yet, without fear, he boldly entered again into that realm and became the agent of liberty to those who had once been his agents of slavery.

He developed this boldness because Christ had revealed Himself to him in such a living way.  Patrick’s faith in Jesus was no cold orthodoxy; his was a living relationship with the living, resurrected Son of God!  In Patrick’s life, Jesus was Lord!  We get a glimpse of the intimacy between him and his Lord when he writes of hearing His voice.  With great humility he simply states that God said to him:

“He who gave His life for you, He it is who speaks within you.”

His knowledge of Christ was deeper than most of us today.  He understood that Jesus dwelt inside him.  He knew Christ, not only as the Lord of heaven—which He certainly is—but as the present, resident, Lord inside Patrick.  One time he actually saw the Holy Spirit praying within him.  He wrote, Continue reading →

On September 11th, 2001, President Bush told us that the Moslems are a peace-loving people.  He was probably trying to prevent a backlash against the Moslems in this country, some of whom, no doubt, were not for the destruction of 3000 lives by our terrorist attackers.  However, in stating that Moslems were a peace-loving people, he started a misunderstanding that could well be the undoing of this nation.

To state that Muslims are peace-loving is to leave the impression that Islam is “sort of” like Christianity.  Christianity teaches us that we are not to try to force the will of others and insist that they believe as we do.  Islam is completely opposite to this.  The Koran, the Muslim “holy book”, states plainly that if unbelievers in Allah, their god, refuse to convert to Islam, they are to be killed.  This means Christians, Jews, Hindus, or anyone else of a different faith, have no right to live on this earth unless they are willing to convert to Islam.  Thus, we must expose what Islam really is- for you cannot defeat an enemy you’ve not identified. Recently we’ve been horrified and sickened with the reports of gruesome beheadings in Iraq and Syria.  The so-called ISIS army is proudly claiming responsibility for these deaths, proudly proclaiming that they are doing this in the name of allah, their god of Islam.  So is this what Islam is?  Are we being rudely awakened to see in actuality what Islam is?  Or is Islam “peace”, as George W. Bush claimed?

In the 600’s in Arabia, a man was visited by an angel—Gabriel, he thought—and believed he was shown the true way of salvation.  That man:  Mohammed.  The religion he started:  Islam.

But the religion he started was not the true way of salvation.  Islam greatly disagrees with the Bible in the fact that Jesus is not accepted as the Son of God.  This lets us know that Mohammed’s angel was not Gabriel, but rather satan “transformed into an angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11: 14-15).  And since satan comes “to steal, to kill, and to destroy” (John 10:10), it comes as no surprise that Islam forces captives to convert to Islam. One of the fundamental truths on which our forefathers based their lives was that God numbers our days.  This means that we cannot die before our days are completed- if we are earnest in our attempt to obey God in His plan for us.  This created tremendous security for them even in turbulent times.

Knowing this truth gave George Washington the courage to ride to the front in the Battle of the Monongahela and face almost point blank gunfire from the enemy lines.  Though he sustained four bullet holes in his coat and another one in his belt buckle, he escaped unharmed: as he said, “By the miraculous dispensations of Providence.”

Our Forefathers got this understanding from the Bible.  God, who gives us life, numbers our days from before the time we’re born.  The Bible teaches in Psalm 139 that God planned all our days for us before our birth.  This is why David refused to take vengeance on King Saul though Saul was trying to kill David.  David stated to one of his soldiers (who had an opportunity to easily kill Saul), Continue reading →
