Saturday, America lost one of her best friends of liberty. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia was found dead at a West Texas resort. Appointed by President Reagan, Scalia was respected by both friend and foe on the Court. His ability to reason from the original intent of the Constitution by America’s Founders made him one of the best ever Supreme Court Judges. His ability to dismantle liberal, “smokescreen” arguments made him the feared enemy of liberal attorneys. He was one of two great champions on the Court for the truth of the Biblical positions on life in the womb, marriage, and religious liberty. With Scalia, the law, as our Founders gave it, applied to all. He literally changed the direction the court had been going before his appointment in the mid 1980’s by exposing the foolishness of interpreting law by what was called “legislative history.” His aim was always to stand by the Founders’ original intent for the Constitution. Few attorneys think like him today. It will take a work from God to give someone like him to fill his place on the Court. Let us pray for the Scalia family and others who were friends. “Those who have been marveling at Donald Trump’s political showmanship were given a reminder of who is the top showman of them all, when…Barack Obama went on television to make a pitch for his unilateral actions to restrict gun sales and make a more general case for tighter gun-control laws…As political theater, it put Donald Trump’s rantings in the shade…As for the substance of what Obama said, there was very little substance, and much of it false…
“If My people, which are called by My name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
In 1857-58 God came in revival in this nation in a remarkable way. A businessman named Jeremiah Lanphier started a noonday prayer meeting in New York City. Within a month, hundreds were praying at noon and it began to spread across the region. Some prayer meetings at noon sprang up without knowing of the New York prayer meetings. God began to move across the nation bringing hope to many who had become hopeless. The church had become so weak it couldn’t even decide if slavery was right or wrong. And whenever the Church leaves the Scripture as its standard society always goes downhill. We can always tell the strength of the Church by how much its influence controls the institutions of education, business, and civil government. Jesus said,
