The Church - Key to a Strong Republic 1Many people wonder why America is going downhill morally.  Why is there so much drug use?  Why are the gangs with all their violence growing so rapidly?  Why is homosexuality capturing so many of our young people?  Why do so many people refuse to marry, and instead just “live” with someone?  Wrong living comes from wrong thinking; and wrong thinking comes from wrong listening!

The reason for these wrong ideas was pointed out in a Barna Research Group survey taken some years ago in Kentucky.  The survey revealed that, while 82% of Kentuckians said they were Christians, over a third of those surveyed said they only attended church once every six months.  This poor church attendance mocks the Scriptural command to,

“Not [forsake] the assembling of ourselves together…” (Hebrews 10:25)

But perhaps you’re thinking, “What difference does it make how often someone goes to church?”  It makes a lot of difference!  It makes a lot of difference to an individual, a family, and a community.  It makes a lot of difference to a nation!  When you hear the Bible taught in its truth, your mind is Continue reading

It is such an amazing story! Patrick, a young, former slave in Ireland, was called by God in the 400s to go share the Gospel of Christ with those same Irish people who had enslaved him just a few years before! Yet, without fear, he boldly entered again into that realm and became the agent of liberty to those who had once been his agents of slavery.

He developed this boldness because Christ had revealed Himself to him in such a living way. Patrick’s faith in Jesus was no cold orthodoxy; his was a living relationship with the living, resurrected Son of God! In Patrick’s life, Jesus was Lord! We get a glimpse of the intimacy between him and his Lord when he writes of hearing His voice. With great humility he simply states that God said to him:

“He who gave His life for you, He it is who speaks within you.”

(Great Christian Classics, Kevin Swanson ed. (Generations With Vision, 2010), p. 140)

His knowledge of Christ was deeper than most of us today. He understood that Jesus dwelt inside him. He knew Christ, not only as the Continue reading

Is there any link between America and the Bible? Was this nation founded on Biblical principles, or was it just “coincidence” that it came into being and grew to be the greatest nation in world history? Though people without knowledge of, or respect for, the Bible would have us believe it was just “luck”, the historical record reveals just the opposite.

In speaking to a 4th of July celebration in Newbury, Connecticut in 1837, John Quincy Adams revealed our Biblical foundations. Being one of our Founders and our sixth President, he was very familiar with the thinking of the Founders. He knew what Continue reading

It could be easy to look around us and be discouraged with the many bad things we see.  Recent gains by the homosexual agenda in Colorado, California, and New York; and also, in California a court ruled that homeschool parents would have to either be certified by the state or stop teaching their children at home.  Chaplains in our armed services have been told they will have to stop praying in Jesus’ Name.  And I could go on and on.  The day does indeed seem dark.

So what are we to do?  Should we accept this darkness as the fulfillment of prophecy that “in the last days perilous times shall come”, and interpret that to mean there’s nothing we can do to protect the liberty of our children to hear the Gospel of the Kingdom of Christ?

While the day is dark, let’s remember that Jesus first came to this earth when it was Continue reading

In the beginning, when God made man, He intended that man should be a vessel of His own life; having the very life of God flow through His spirit, soul, and body.  But we chose not to allow God to come to live inside us and release His life through us, by eating of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil—instead of eating of the Tree of Life.  Thus, we stepped outside the Order of God and starting operating in a different system than that for which we were designed (Genesis 3).  We began to try to provide for ourselves by selfish acts.  If we had surrendered to God and allowed His life to come inside us, everything we needed for life would have flowed up and out through us.  The work we would have done would have been for the purpose of working with God:  Not for the purpose of making sure we had enough to eat.  Thus, we flipped God’s system on its head and began to operate from a completely different system than God designed for us.

Thus, now, once we turn to Christ and surrender to Him as Lord, He begins to Continue reading

On February 3rd in 1970 God worked a modern day revival in central Kentucky.  A Chapel service at Asbury College was invaded by the Holy Spirit of God.  His work would go deep in the hearts of students, faculty members and many others for the next eight days.  Classes were cancelled as most of the college family waited in the Presence of God.  Honest confessions of sin, private and public, were the norm as one person after another made their way to the altar at the front of the auditorium.  After their surrender of every area of their lives, they would walk up onto the platform and give their witness to the whole group as to what God had done in them.  This was repeated in hundreds of individuals over the eight day span as there were always some people in Hughes auditorium for every hour of those eight days.

Those days were characterized by deep repentance and thus, lives being transformed.  One rebellious Senior’s testimony describes well what would happen to many.  In Robert Coleman’s book, One Divine Moment, which Continue reading

The arguments continue over whether a wall should be built along our Southwest border to keep out people who are not willing to meet the qualifications our Congress has set for people to enter the United States.  Those who want the Wall believe a nation needs well defined borders.  Those who do not want a wall believe there should be no borders between nations.  I’m still wondering how you define what is a nation if you don’t have borders.  I hear opinions being expressed by most everyone.  But I rarely hear anyone addressing this issue from the Biblical perspective.  What does God say about the boundaries of nations?  Since God created nations (Acts 17:26) you’d think He’d have some definite things to teach us about nations.  Indeed He does:  If we’d only be quiet and listen instead of believing that our thoughts deserve to be heard more than anyone else’s!

God tells us about nations’ borders in Deuteronomy 32:8.  The Bible says,

“When the most High divided to the nations their inheritance, when he separated the sons of Adam, he set the bounds [or boundaries] of the people according to the number of the children of Israel.”

God gives to nations boundaries, therefore, the boundaries should be respected as a moral issue as well as a geographical issue.  Shouldn’t we be Continue reading

On January 22nd, 2019, the most murderous abortion law in U.S. history was passed and signed into law by New York governor, Andrew Cuomo.  It allows murders to be performed on children in the womb right up to the day of their birth!  While most states in America have been restricting abortion more and more, New York now decides to flaunt the murder of children and celebrate it by lighting up the One World Trade Center Spire—as if this were something to be proud of!  This law even allows for unlicensed people to perform abortions, and insurance companies are forced to pay for it.  Can you believe that such savagery exists in this nation?!  While there are some exceptions, this celebration is happening mostly among the so-called “educational elite” in New York; in other words, left wing people who are, as the Bible says,

“Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools…” (Romans 1:22)

How could this have ever happened to our nation which was founded on the Biblical principles of government?  The short story is that; from the late 1800s on, we accepted more and more the idea that there is no God—or that God is not involved in every detail of life.  Along with those lies came the lie that the Bible is a book of myths.  These lies gave birth to the lie that there are no “Absolutes”.  In other words, nothing is Continue reading

The Immigration Fix, Part 4 1The Debate continues over illegal immigration.  The socialists in Congress, and their supporters, don’t want a wall.  The reasons they put out front is that it’s unfair to deny needy people entrance to our nation; and a wall won’t work anyway.  But are those the real reasons they want open borders?  Consider their arguments just mentioned:  If we’re going to admit people just because they are needy, then the whole world will be standing at our door.  Few nations on earth have anything like the lifestyle Americans enjoy.  Most of the world is needy compared to this nation!

Their talk that, “a Wall won’t work” is just that—TALK!  A recent example of how well a Wall does work to keep out illegals is the nation of Israel.  David Rubin, the former Mayor of the city of Shiloh in Israel, told Fox News that,

“…from 2010 to 2012, some 55,000 illegal immigrants came…through Egypt into Israel.  In a tiny nation like Israel, he said, ‘that’s a lot,’ [and] the result was that crime rocketed…where they settled…Israeli officials finally agreed to build [a] wall…and in 2016, there were only 11 illegal immigrants who entered Israel through that route…A year after…the Israeli government made security improvements to the wall and increased its height…and now, Rubin contends that the wall is virtually impenetrable by illegal immigrants…‘[T]here was not [one] illegal immigrant that made it through the southern border – not one,’ Rubin [said], referring to last year.”

Who were the thinkers behind the American Revolution which would give birth to the greatest Republic the world had ever seen?  Actually, men like Washington, Jefferson, or even Samuel Adams, were not the “root” thinkers of that Revolution.  You may be surprised, but the truth is:  It was the Pastors who inspired the thinking that brought about the American Revolution.  They taught it in the churches!  The Provincial Congress of Massachusetts stated in 1774:

“…we cannot but acknowledge the goodness of Heaven in constantly supplying us with preachers of the Gospel whose concern has been the temporal and spiritual happiness of this people…and do therefore recommend…that they assist us in avoiding that dreadful slavery with which we are now threatened…”

(Christian History of the American Revolution, V. Hall (F.A.C.E. pub.), p.402)

The inspiration for the Battle of Lexington and Concord, which began the Revolutionary War, was none other than Jonas Clark, Pastor of the Church in Lexington for twenty years before the Revolution.  It was Continue reading
