In 1800, Supreme Court Justice William Paterson, reminded his fellow Justices on the Court of the words of Proverbs 29:2, which state:

“When the righteous rule, the people rejoice; when the wicked rule, the people groan.”

In Kentucky we are about to choose people to rule over us—and our children.  Very important offices will be decided this election day.  We’ll choose a Governor and, nearly as important, an Attorney General, among others.  We need Godly wisdom to know, and Godly boldness to do, in the voting booth, what is right by God’s standard—regardless of our party, or pressure from family or friends.  We need Godly boldness to vote Biblical moral convictions, regardless of what socialists in the media are trying to influence us to do.

The Bible calls us to vote for candidates who will “stand fast in the liberty wherewith Christ has made us free.”  It tells us to:

“Take you wise men, and understanding, and known among your tribes, and I will make them rulers over you.” (Deuteronomy 1:13)

Samuel Adams, the Father of the American Revolution, summed up why our voting was so very important when he Continue reading

With the false slant the secular media gives its reporting, and the support of universities in propagating that viewpoint, some people wonder if there is any purpose in fighting this war for the preservation of liberty.  Through their rhetoric, these ‘change agents’ of our culture try to discourage us from going to the polls.  Is there any good reason for moral conservatives, and especially Christians, to vote?

Yes!  Absolutely yes!  Let us not forget that first and foremost of all, our vote is not about its effect.  Our vote is not primarily about whom we elect.  It is most importantly an act of obedience to the God who created us.  In America’s first dictionary, written when we weren’t ashamed to name the Name of Jesus Christ in public places, Noah Webster defined the word vote as coming from a root word meaning, “our solemn vow to God”!  Our vote is an act of agreement with God in His work of protecting the right of the next generation to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ; and thus, to have the opportunity to become all He created them to become.  Our vote is our sacred opportunity to preserve liberty for our children!

The Bible teaches that electing our rulers is Continue reading

Noah Webster, the Father of America’s original education system, wrote to young people in his U.S. history book:

“When you become entitled to exercise the right of voting for public officers, let it be impressed on your mind that God commands you to choose for rulers, ‘just men who will rule in the fear of God.’  The preservation of [the government of a republic] depends on the faithful discharge of this duty; if the citizens neglect their duty and place unprincipled men in office…the rights of the citizens will be violated or disregarded.  If [the government of a republic] fails to secure public prosperity and happiness, it must be because the citizens neglect the divine commands, and elect bad men to make and administer the laws.”

(History of the United States (New Haven, Durrie & Beck, 1832), pp. 336-337)

The school teacher who made America great, taught us to look at a person’s character before we give him our vote.

And how are we to know what a person’s character is really like?  Noah Webster revealed that when he warned us not to neglect “the divine commands”.  In other words compare their actions to those the Bible commands us to have.  It’s the same thing Jesus said when He taught us, “You will know them by their fruits.”  Do a person’s actions show that they view things the way God views them?

Can this be done in the present election?  Can we know how candidates think?  We certainly can.  In fact, this is Continue reading

In just the last few days we have celebrated Columbus Day.  But why do we celebrate this day?  I remember learning in school that Columbus discovered America, but I don’t ever remember hearing why Columbus discovered America.

When we read Columbus’ own writings, it becomes obvious he decided to make his journey because of inspiration from God, his Creator.  Columbus wrote,

“It was the Lord who put into my mind (I could feel His hand upon me)…that it would be possible to sail from here to the Indies.  All who heard of my project rejected it with laughter…[But] There is no question that the inspiration was from the Holy Spirit, because He comforted me with rays of marvelous inspiration from the Holy Scriptures…”

(Columbus, Christopher. August 3, 1492, as recounted by Bartolome’ de Las Casas. Samuel Eliot Morison, Admiral of the Ocean Sea (Boston: Little, Brown & Co., 1942), p. 149. | John Eidsmoe, Columbus & Cortez, Conquerors for Christ (Green Forest, AR: New Leaf Press, 1992), p. 106.)

While there are those who reject the idea that God can lead us in this world and make plain to us what He wants us to do, the Bible is Continue reading

With the election only a month away, the candidates are fervently pushing their agenda, trying to convince us we should trust them with the future of our children.  That is what’s at stake, you know.  They promise us ‘all will be well’ if we give them our vote.  But with all the lies politicians have told us throughout our lives, why should we even bother to vote?  Well, the last two generations, many have decided not to.  We now think we’ve had a good voter turnout if 50% of those registered to vote get to the polls.  Not to mention the huge numbers who haven’t cared enough to even register.  How sad!

Why has this happened?  Since the 1920s most of our universities have been teaching that there is no God and life is all about us, and our pleasure.  Without knowing that the God of the Bible created us in an instant of time, we have no association with Him, which means we have no reason for self-worth, or for committing our lives to worthwhile tasks.  We simply “live for the weekend” as many put it.

This spills over into the governmental realm.  People who live for pleasure are Continue reading

What is Socialism 1It is just hard to believe that we have so many Presidential candidates that are openly embracing socialism! While fifty years ago a socialist political candidate couldn’t get to “first base”, today it’s becoming much more accepted due to the multitude of Socialists professors in America’s universities. They teach our young adults from a socialist perspective, and many, if not most, of those young adults come to think socialistically. Now they are running for office—even the Presidency!

Why is this upsurge in socialism occurring? I believe it is mainly because we don’t understand what socialism really is. satan has always worked in the darkness; and it is in this region of ignorance that tyranny begins. So let’s TURN THE LIGHT ON SOCIALISM. Let’s take a REAL look into it and its operations.

By definition, socialism “is Continue reading

“It’s hot!”  I must have heard that a hundred times this summer—including all the times I said it to myself.  The small amount of rain over a lot of weeks is quickly moving us toward a crisis with our water tables.

But while we’re quick to complain about the dry weather, we’re much slower to consider why the rain has been withheld.  I hear Pastors sometimes quote that “God sends the rain on the just and the unjust”, as Jesus stated.  And that is His normal course of action.  However, there are other Bible passages that shed further light on this subject.  For instance, 2nd Chronicles 6:26, when King Solomon prays to God and says, “When the heavens are shut up and there is no rain because they have sinned against [God]…”  Solomon obviously believed rain could be withheld because God’s people were in sin.  This was also proven with the prophet Elijah.  God told Elijah that He would withhold the rain because of the wickedness of King Ahab and his Queen Jezebel.  Moses warned Continue reading

“Is Sunday Sad?”

Is Sunday Sad- 1

Recently, I read a magazine article which so illustrates the thinking of our day.  The subject was what might be called the “Sunday sads”.  I used to get it in the pit of my stomach when I was a small boy; Sunday evenings this sadness would creep over me because I had to go to school the next day.  Playtime was over.  The feeling said, “Back to the old grind, boy; fun’s over!”  But in this article, I couldn’t help noticing how much the so-called, “Sunday sads”, illustrate the humanistic thinking of our day.

First the article identified the symptoms of this experience.  They spoke of how, as Sunday evening draws nearer, feelings of regret for good or bad done that day start descending like a black cloud.  Then there’s the fear of what this coming week might hold; in other words, worry.  It can all make for a sad Sunday evening.

But when reasons for this and solutions for it were put forth, not one person interviewed even mentioned Continue reading

“By the transgression of a land many are its princes [(rulers; laws)], but by a man of understanding and knowledge, so it endures.” (Proverbs 28:2, parenthesis added)

Some 400 years ago, our Pilgrim Forefathers landed on the shores of Cape Cod, Massachusetts.  They came here with the vision of creating a community, and perhaps a nation, which would teach the Gospel of Christ to the next generation.  To do this they understood they would have to have a government that, by law, would protect that right.  They set us a wonderful example of Biblical wisdom being applied to civil government, when they wrote what has been called the “first constitution of America”.  We now call it the Mayflower Compact.  It was the first governing document in America written solely by those who would be governed by it.

Because they were trained in the art of self-government, this first law established in America did not need to be long and complicated.  Because their self-government was large, their civil government could be small.  It read simply:

“In the name of God, Amen.  We whose names are underwritten…having undertaken, for the glory of God, and advancement of the Christian faith, and honor of our king and country, a voyage to plant the first colony in the Northern parts of Virginia, do by these present solemnly and mutually in the presence of God, and one of another, covenant and combine ourselves together into a civil body politic, for our better ordering and preservation and furtherance of the ends aforesaid; and by virtue hereof to enact, constitute, and frame such just and equal laws…constitutions and offices, from time to time, as shall be thought most meet…for the general good of the Colony, unto which we promise all due submission and obedience.

“In witness whereof we have hereunder subscribed our names at Cape Cod, the 11. of November…[in the year of our Lord] 1620.”

This was Continue reading

The Real Reason for Red Flag Laws 1

Once again, mass shootings have brought on the call for more gun control; as if the gun was inherently evil.  By the way, wonder why we don’t hear from the media the many, well-documented, instances where a gun was used to stop an attacker?  Anyway, this time the solution put forth are the so-called, “Red Flag” laws.  These laws would supposedly identify a mentally unbalanced person before they committed the hideous act of a mass shooting.  It sounds good.  But like so many other idealistic ideas put forth by the socialists, it simply cannot work in a fallen world.  Man’s selfish nature, what the Bible calls sin, just won’t—indeed it cannot—work perfect solutions to problems.

Questions like, who is going to determine just who is mentally unbalanced?  What process will be used to separate him from his gun?  What treatment will be applied to cure him of his insanity?  These are just a few of the unanswered questions swirling around this emotional search for how to stop mass shootings.

But let’s look beneath the emotional surface at WHY these “Red Flag” laws are being proposed.  The truth is, in the natural realm, Red Flag laws would Continue reading
