christians-stand-up-and-vote1On February 9th, 2016, a group of Kentucky’s Legislators revealed the shenanigans of “politics by politicians” instead of government being operated by statesmen.  These “shenanigans” were led by Speaker of the House, Greg Stumbo (Democrat from Floyd Co.).  Senate Bill 7 would have stopped Kentucky tax dollars from going to that wicked organization which is misleadingly named Planned ParenthoodPlanned Parenthood probably commits more abortions across this nation that any other single organization which does abortions.  The bill to defund Kentucky’s Planned Parenthood of Kentucky tax dollars was stuck in a Kentucky House committee, so advocates presented what’s called a procedural bill in order to bring SB 7 to the House floor for an “up or down” vote.  The vote to bring out SB 7 so it could be voted on went like this:

47 voted for SB 7 to come to the House Floor for an “up or down” vote.

10 voted against it coming to the Floor.

39 did not vote at all!!

When no vote is cast at all in the Legislature, that inaction is counted as a vote against the bill.  This meant that 49 Legislators were against defunding Planned Parenthood; 47 Legislators were for defunding Planned Parenthood.  To make it even plainer:  47 Legislators wanted to stop hundreds of abortions from happening in Kentucky; 49 Legislators wanted to keep hundreds of abortions happening in Kentucky this year! Salt is a powerful agent.  It nourishes, heals, flavors, and preserves things.  Jesus used it as an illustration of what His followers are to be.  He stated,

“You are the salt of the earth…”

walked-on-salt1(Matthew 5:13)

As His life flows through born again believers, He nourishes, heals, flavors, and preserves people of every age and description by them being introduced to Him and His delivering power.  On the other hand, Jesus gave a fearful warning concerning us being the “salt” of this earth.  He went on to state,

“… but if the salt has lost its savor, wherewith shall it be salted?  It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.”

In other words, if we, the “salt” of this earth lose our ability to nourish, heal, flavor, and preserve, we will find ourselves being “walked-on” in our society. Continue reading

Thomas Sowells is a powerful political commentator.  He is a senior fellow at the trumps-words-or-hillarys-deeds1Hoover Institution, Stanford University, and he happens to be of African descent.  He analyzes the two Presidential candidates the best I’ve seen.  The Bible says,

He that is first [that is: first to speak] in his own cause seems just; but his neighbor comes and searches him [or cross-examines him].”

(Proverbs 18:17)

Donald Trump has been made to look like the egotist he’s often been because of his bad statement about women.  He deserves it.  However, when you cross-examine Hillary Clinton, she comes out to be the much worse of the two bad candidates.  I urge you to consider Thomas Sowell’s analysis of the two candidates.  He states:

“Donald Trump’s gutter talk about women shows yet again that he is bad news. The problem is that Hillary Clinton is far worse. [emphasis mine] Trump’s talk is indefensible. But Hillary Clinton’s actions as Secretary of State, carrying out the Obama administration’s foreign policies, have cost many lives in many places, including the American ambassador and others killed in Benghazi. Women have a right to be offended by Trump’s words. But women have suffered a far worse fate from Secretary Clinton’s and President Obama’s actions. Pulling American troops out of Iraq, despite military advice to the contrary, led to the sudden rise of ISIS and their seizing of many women and young girls as sex slaves… Continue reading

Joshua called together the leaders of Israel and challenged them to finish the work of establishing the Jews in the Promised Land.  He admonished them,

choose-whom-you-will-serve1“…choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served…or the gods of the Amorites…but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

(Joshua 24:15)

The nations around them worshipped (through their idols, Psalm 106:37) a god—satan—which produced a dictator for their civil government.  God, our true Creator, had given to the Jews, through Moses, a government where the people chose their rulers through elections.  The first form of government enslaved the people to their king, the dictator; God’s form of government enslaved the government servants to the people, the citizens, giving to the people in government only specifically written powers which they could exercise over them (we call that a “Constitution”).  The nations around them had a dictatorship for their form of government; the Jews had a republic for their form of government.  And the Jews experienced, through their republic, more liberty and justice for their citizens than any nation had ever experienced up unto that time.

Noah Webster, the Father of America’s original education method, wrote to young people in his U.S. History textbook the following admonition:

voting-is-obedience-to-god1“When you become entitled to exercise the right of voting for public officers, let it be impressed on your mind that God commands you to choose for rulers ‘just men who will rule in the fear of God.’ The preservation of [the government of a republic] depends on the faithful discharge of this duty.

“If [the government of a republic] fails to secure public prosperity and happiness, it must be because the citizens neglect the divine commands, and elect bad men to make and administer the laws.”

“Let each citizen remember at the moment he is offering his vote that he is not making a present…to please an individual—or at least that he ought not so to do; but that he is executing one of the most solemn trusts in human society for which he is accountable to God and his country.”

Why did America’s Founders teach that voting was so important?  First of all, they believed that the Bible taught it.  Indeed, in Genesis 1:26, where God tells why He made man, one of His three reasons was that man might “have dominion.”  “Having dominion” means, first of all, that we rule over our own desires.  We call this “internal self-government” (America’s Founders often called it “virtue”).  But that internal self-government must be allowed to grow out into the culture.  We must also “take dominion” in the institutions of the culture.  I refer to the home, the church, and civil government—for those are the three structural institutions by which God builds every nation.  If we do not lead in those institutions then those who do not know and walk in the truth of the Scripture will lead; they will “take dominion” and lead us Continue reading

In the hot summer of 1776, a group of 56 delegates gathered in Philadelphia to discuss their differences with the British Crown and Parliament.  The most important question to Codifying the Pilgrim Vision Into Law1be decided was:  Who was the source of their rights of life, liberty, and property?  Was the source God or government?  England thought the colonies existed for the good of the Mother country.  Thus, they thought the rights of the colonists were “government granted”.  The people in America thought they existed for the “glory of God and the advancement of the Christian faith”, as the Pilgrims had stated.  Thus, Americans believed that their rights were “God given”.  What had to be decided was:  Is Parliament and the English King the highest authority, or is there a higher law in place?  If there was a higher law, did the colonists have to submit to laws that disagreed with that higher law?

The Americans did believe there was a higher law, which was the Law of God written in the Bible.  The ministers of this time period in America were remarkably agreed on this position.  They quoted over and over the passage in Romans 13:1-2 that states Continue reading

Americans are angry about Obama’s edict for boys and girls to share common bathrooms, and they should be angry!  A number of Governors have urged their school districts to ignore Obama’s command, and Governors should be doing that!  Rev. Franklin Graham stated he hoped “school districts across this nation will defy President Obama and his administration’s radical, progressive agenda to promote and advance the sin of homosexuality…” (http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/president-obama-transgender-bathroom public schools/2916/05/13/id/728773)  (By the way, “progressive” is now the word used in place of “communism”.  New name—same murderous Fixing Obamas Bathroom Mess1philosophy!)  In Texas, Lt. Governor Dan Patrick said the Lone Star State was prepared to forfeit billions in federal aid rather than let the Obama administration dictate restroom policy for its 5.2 million students (Breaking News at Newsmax.com 2016/05/13).

A very important election is close at hand.  In Kentucky, May 17th is the primary How Much Before We Vote1election.  This is where we will choose state and local government servants which will shape our state for generations to come.  This is Kentucky’s most important election this year!  Yet, probably less than 25% of Kentucky’s born-again believers will vote!  Up until 1900, the Christian population of America controlled the outcome of elections.  No candidate could be elected who did not acknowledge God’s place in our history.  Actually, they had to go even further than that.  In their speeches and writings, they had to acknowledge that Jesus Christ was God’s Son, and that the Bible was the best book to live by in this world.  Had a candidate for political office in the 1800’s stated that he believed abortion was a woman’s choice, or homosexuality was just a different way of family life, he would have ended his political career then and there. What changed?

It all started when Christians backed out of the political realm in the 1920’s.  When Christians lost the battle over legalizing liquor, many Bible-believing Pastors began to say, Continue reading
