When God created Israel’s civil government, He commanded Moses:
“…thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers…” (Exodus 18:21)
Thus, God gives us His qualifications for government servants. I believe Kentucky Governor, Matt Bevin, has fulfilled these qualifications better than any governor in my lifetime of sixty-nine years. While certainly not a perfect man, he’s done remarkably well at fulfilling this command. Only the socialists who hate him scream otherwise: As if they could put forth a perfect man.
Governor Bevin has proven himself to be an “able” man: Leading the Kentucky Legislature to draft and pass some eight Pro-Life bills. No other Kentucky Governor since abortion was “legalized” has done anything close to that! Likewise, his leadership has now brought Kentucky to be one of the leading states in the nation where businesses are looking to locate. Many have already done so!
Governor Bevin is a “God-fearing” man. He has not hesitated to speak of God as Creator, and Jesus as Redeemer in public settings. He’s demonstrated his faith by kicking off the effort to read the Bible through at the beginning of recent years; with his own children he’s stood for the reading of it to encourage other Kentuckians in this effort.
Governor Bevin is a man of truth. I’ve talked with him personally enough to know that he speaks with integrity. He was the first candidate I ever interviewed who got right the question: “What is the purpose of government?” The answer being to protect the God-given rights of “life, liberty, and property”, as the Declaration of Independence teaches. I so appreciated the sincerity and conviction with which he spoke those words. His record as Governor has proven he believes that.
Governor Bevin has worked to fully fund the budgeted amount into the state workers retirement fund; while the previous administrations have created a deficit of some forty to sixty billion dollars (depending on whose stats you believe) in that fund! You can decide which governor fulfilled the Biblical command for government servants to “hate covetousness”.
Of course, Governor Bevin is certainly not a perfect man. And he has probably made some mistakes in dealing with those representing the KEA who’ve constantly yelled in his face. But could you, or I—or his critics—handle those constant outbursts of anger any better if we were in his position? I don’t think so! The socialist-thinking people who criticize him come from that “we can create perfection ourselves” philosophy; and would have us believe their candidates would be much more perfect as governor. I don’t think Kentucky people will buy that lie in this year’s elections.
Thus, it comes down once again to the battle over whether Biblical ways will be in government and education. The question is: Will we do it God’s way, or man’s way? It really is that simple.
Remember: “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.” (Proverbs 14:34) To vote for those whose aim it is to establish “righteousness” (i.e., what the Bible teaches concerning right and wrong) “exalts a nation”. To vote man’s ideas bring on us the wrath of God described in Psalm 9:17, “The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.”
God will give to us (and by extension, our children!) the kind of government we deserve. WE MUST VOTE. I wonder how our children in the future will view our vote. More importantly: How will God view it at the Judgment Seat of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:10)?!!
Think about it; because if you don’t, someone else will do your thinking for you—and for your children! And you won’t like what that brings to you. I’m Don Pinson; this has been Think About It.
