Obey God- VOTE- 1In the 2016 election, 39% of registered voters did not even go to the polls to vote.  And Christians did no better than the national average:  40% of Evangelicals did not go to the polls.  Think how this reveals the selfishness in us.  Our lack of voting says, “We don’t care what kind of government our children have to live under.”  And with that attitude, in time a dictator is certain to take over the government and force our children (and perhaps us) to live under cruel laws which will oppress all who disagree with him.  Do we want to face God at the Judgment with that on our record?  Think about it!

Why has this happened?  Since the 1920s most of our universities and media have been teaching that there is no God and life is all about us, and our pleasure.  Without knowing that the God of the Bible created us in an instant of time, we have no association with Him, which means we have no reason for self-worth, or for committing our lives to worthwhile tasks.  We simply “live for the weekend” as many put it.

This spills over into the governmental realm.  People who live for pleasure are sent to the halls of government.  They, in turn, make laws to protect their pleasure.  Note the push for abortion and homosexuality.  And the end of those movements, which our irresponsibility has allowed, is politicians calling for an end to civil debate and advocating civil war.  Hillary Clinton said on October 9th, “You cannot be civil with a political party that wants to destroy what you stand for…” (Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, October 9th, 2018, “It’s Notable What the Left is Being Silent About” (One News Now, 10/22/18))  In other words, she’s advocating the violence of anarchy!

With this violence, the Left hopes to put into citizens the idea:  “What’s the use to vote?  All these politicians are crazy.”

Without being connected to our Creator, we have no reason to live for anyone but ourselves.  We think less and less about our children and grandchildren.  Therefore we drop out of the institutions of the culture, including government.  We don’t vote because we don’t know why our vote is important.  And that eventually brings us to anarchy, and that— brings us to a dictator.

In reality the reason we should welcome responsibility, including voting, is because we are made in the image of God with the capacity to let Him indwell us and think through our thought processes.  If we bow our will to Jesus Christ and admit that this life is His, not ours, and then receive Him as both Savior and Lord, He will step inside us and begin to live His life through us.  Then the Bible describes our life as “…not I, but Christ…” (Galatians 2:20).  His indwelling life begins to think and feel through us.  The more we read the Bible and submit to its instruction, the more Christ releases His life through us.  That type of citizen is the one best equipped to decide who will be a good government servant.  Since Jesus is described in Isaiah as carrying the “government on His shoulders”, those He indwells should be the best of any at choosing their leaders in government.

Obey God- VOTE- 2

Indeed, America’s first dictionary actually links voting to one’s relationship with God.  Noah Webster defined the word vote as “our solemn vow to God!”  It is a transaction between the citizen and God; and as such, we will stand before Him and give an account as to if we voted and—how we voted!

That’s why I urge you to go vote in this fall election.  And if you vote for candidates who stand on Biblical values (like refusing to vote for the funding of Planned Parenthood because of the abortions they do) then you will be protecting the liberty of your children.  Remember, it’s their future that’s at stake!  God commands His people to vote in Deuteronomy 1:13 when He says,

“Take ye [or “select ye”] wise men…and I will make them rulers over you.”

Will you go vote in order to “select” wise men to rule over you and your children?

Think about it; because if you don’t, someone else will do your thinking for you—and for your children!  And you won’t like what that brings to you.  I’m Don Pinson; this has been Think About It.
