The wisdom of America’s early generations never ceases to amaze me! As I’m watching the disintegration of our national governmental structure, I’m grieving because most still seem to be asleep to the destruction and what it will mean to them and those they love. And yet our ancestors understood so well what it took to maintain liberty.
Timothy Dwight, the President of Yale College, spoke these words on July 4th, 1798:
“Religion (meaning Biblical Christianity) and liberty are the meat and the drink of the body politic. Withdraw one of them and it languishes, consumes, and dies.
Without religion we may possibly retain the freedom of savages, bears, and wolves, but not the freedom of New England. If [Christianity] were gone, our state of society would perish with it and nothing would be left which would be worth defending.”
(Dwight, Timothy. July 4, 1798, as president of Yale College, in an address delivered at New Haven: “The Duty of Americans, at the Present Crisis, Illustrated in a Discourse, Preached on the Fourth of July, 1798.” (#Ital original). The Annals of America, 20 vols. (Chicago, IL: Encyclopedia Britannica, 1968, 1977), Vol. 4, pp. 33-39. Peter Marshall and David Manuel, From Sea to Shining Sea (Old Tappan, NJ: Fleming H. Revell Company, 1986))
The efforts of Mr. Obama, and those who side with him, to destroy Christianity and all the morals taught by it, is an outright attack to destroy the United States of America. Anyone who tries to destroy Biblical morality, either by ignorance or design, is partnering with satan himself in the destruction of liberty. The Bible reveals that satan’s desire is to “steal, kill, and destroy.” (John 10:10) His mission is to enslave us to his rule. Civil government is the easiest way he can enslave a people; because all he has to do is enslave those government servants who have the greatest influence with their colleagues, and he has the nation under his thumb. This is why Paul strongly commanded us:
“Stand fast in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free.”
(Galatians 5:1)
This command extends to both internal “self” government, and external civil government!
Daniel Webster, the great statesman of the first half of the 1800s, identified the true source of American liberty when he dedicated Plymouth Rock, our first national monument. He stated,
“Lastly, our ancestors established their system of government on morality and religious sentiment. Moral habits, they believed, cannot safely be trusted on any other foundation than religious principle, nor any government be secure which is not supported by moral habits…Whatever makes men good Christians, makes them good citizens.”
(Webster, Daniel. December 22, 1820. The Works of Daniel Webster (Boston: Little, Brown and Company, 1853), Vol. I, pp. 22-44. Gary DeMar, God and Government, A Biblical and Historical Study (Atlanta, GA: American Vision Press, 1984), p. xiii.)
So to destroy Christianity by refusing the Bible the right to be taught to children in school; by destroying the Biblical structure for marriage (in other words, between a man and a woman only); by lifting up Islam as being superior to Christianity; this government is destroying the very foundations of our liberty and blocking the next generation from hearing the Gospel of Jesus Christ in public.
So what can we do?
Pray for God to send revival and reformation to His “shallow” American church: Read the Bible yourself, from Genesis through Revelation. Teach your children to read it by reading it to them when they are small. Turn off the TV so you can do this!!! Teach your children or grandchildren the school subjects at home!! Get into a Bible-believing and Bible-teaching church! Learn with your words and deeds to share Christ with others. Invest your time and resources in getting the Gospel to this generation of children!
Shouldn’t you do this—instead of waiting for someone else to?
Think about it; because if you don’t, someone else will do your thinking for you—
and for your children! And you won’t like what that brings to you. I’m Don Pinson this has been Think About It.
