In April of 1917 the United States entered into World War I.  While all wars are caused by the selfishness of man, the desire of our people as a whole was not our gain.  Rather, it was our desire to protect the liberty which God had entrusted to us.  And our people responded in great numbers to the request of President Woodrow Wilson to observe a Day of Public Humiliation, Prayer and Fasting on May 11, 1918.  He requested our people to:

“…humbly and devoutly…acknowledge our dependence on Almighty God and to implore His aid and protection…with religious solemnity and the offering of fervent supplications to Almighty God for the safety and welfare of our cause, His blessings on our arms, and a speedy restoration of an honorable and lasting peace to the nations of the earth…”

(American Minute by William Federer, April 6, 2015)

Our prayers “were heard and graciously answered.”  Few would argue that it was American arms which won the day for liberty in the nations of the earth and brought this mighty scourge of war to an end.  And while Continue reading

Pastor Jonas Clark stood on Lexington Green on the steps of his church building on April 19th, 1775, watching 600 British troops file onto the grassy area.  He had taught his people for twenty years the Biblical principles of why and how to defend civil liberty.  He did this because he knew the Bible taught that civil government was God’s institution just like the home and the church were God’s institutions.  He stood there that day and watched nine of his men die on that field.  They died because they stood and took the first volley.  They had learned from their Pastor that only defensive war is just.  For God to fight with them, they must not fire the first shot.  They didn’t.  God honored their sacrifice; the British, though a vastly superior force, were routed that day by the Colonial forces.  A “shot was heard round the world” about how you defend civil liberty God’s way!

Samuel Davies, a Pastor in Virginia, was Patrick Henry’s inspiration for powerful public speaking.  Laying “line upon line” the great Pastor’s reasoning both stirred and gave Continue reading

The Pilgrims stated that their main reason for coming to this land was the…

“…propagation of the Gospel of Christ in that remote part of the world, even though they should be but stepping stones to others in so great a work.”

While they did this well in their own day, it is still happening through their descendants also.  Consider how God is using the JESUS Film Project to share Christ.  I quote from one of the Project’s recent newsletters…

“It was a dream.  Pastor George kept seeing a dark, shadowy hand hovering over the villages of a mountainous region, in his home country of Ecuador.

“George didn’t understand the dream, but…he heard God, [saying]:  ‘Go and show these people that My power is greater.’  So, Pastor George returned from the U.S. to Ecuador, bringing Continue reading

The last time America had a move of God that was nationwide was over 150 years ago.  Since that time the growing darkness of secularism—founded in Americans gradually believing the lie that we are god, and that the life that has our name attached to it is ours—has brought more and more darkness to us.  It definitely looks like we’re going to destroy ourselves.

Is there any hope for our nation?  There definitely is!  And His Name is Jesus Christ!  But we’ll never make our nation a candidate for His deliverance, until we, as a majority of individuals in this land, surrender these lives completely to Him.  That would bring the awareness of His Presence to us in such a real way that we could hear His voice again.  That would let us work with Him in the revival he wants to give to us.  Perhaps you’re thinking:  “That can’t happen in these last days”, or, “Wrong is too much in control, we can’t turn it back now.”  These are Continue reading

Jesus had been dead three days.  Some of the women who had followed Him came to His tomb early and had found the stone door rolled away and His body gone!  They had told His disciples, and Peter and John had come to the grave site and seen for themselves that His body was gone.  But now the others had left and only Mary Magdalene remained.  It is here we pick up the story from the book, Why God Birthed America:

“Mary did not want to leave.  She stood there a few steps from the entrance to the grave, trying to sort out all that had happened.  The angels had said He was alive.  Jesus Himself had told them He would come back to life.  But could that really be?

“She moved closer to the entrance.  Questions were flying through her mind.  Could He really be alive again?

“She didn’t know how long she stood there lost in thought.  But as she put her head on the doorway and wept, she was instantly blinded with light!  There they were again!  The two shining creatures they had seen earlier.

“They looked at her with compassion.  ‘Woman, why are you weeping?’ they asked.  ‘Because they’ve taken away my Lord and I don’t know where they’ve put Him’, she wailed.

“She turned her head away, having no stamina which could stand up to the questions of celestial beings.  What had happened?  Where was His body?  Her mind was racing, exceeded only by the racing of her heart.

“Blinded by tears, she turned Continue reading

Ladies and Gentlemen, we continue to see the crucifixion of Jesus as written in the book, Why God Birthed America:

“By now it was noon, and a strange thing begins to happen.  The sky begins to darken with an eerie blackness.  For a few brief moments, the air was so still it seemed to choke you as the darkness deepened.  Then the earth began to tremble.  Lightning bolts were exploding against the ground.

“Then, unexpectedly, the voice of Jesus pierces the darkness.  In a loud, wrenching voice Jesus cries out, ‘My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?’ (Matthew 27:45-46)

“The level of emotional pain expressed by this outcry was incomprehensible.  All who heard it were arrested by its intensity.  While the light produced by the lightning bolts was short-lived, the pain in His face that they exposed was unforgettable.  His brow was deeply wrinkled.  The blood on his battered face was Continue reading

Ladies and Gentlemen, we continue the story of Jesus’ death, taken largely from the book Why God Birthed America:

“But trying to ignore the feeling that these nails were going into an innocent Man’s hands, the Roman soldiers continued their bloody work.  Another powerful blow of the mallet forces the spike through Jesus’ crossed feet.  His body contorts and His quivering lips reveal the pain He’s absorbing—yet no sound is heard from His lips save the gasps for air.  His blood is now running onto the ground at a steady rate; the earth soaking up the blood of its Creator.

“Yet in all this word-defying scene of horrendous torture, there is an unmistakable presence of peace surrounding this middle cross.  Though unseen, it is undeniable.  This Man is like no other that has ever hung on a cross.  There is a Presence about Him.  In spite of the cruelty, the ghastly sight of blood, and the stark disregard for human life, dignity pervades this scene!  Something is happening here which defies description.  A transaction is taking place between heaven and earth that will profoundly affect all of history.

“Suddenly, as He looks to heaven, Jesus breaks Continue reading

March 17th is set aside each year to remember a man who lived in Ireland in the 400s.  His life would not only lead thousands of the Irish out of satanism to Jesus Christ as their Lord; his Biblical teaching concerning government would literally lay the foundation for liberty in America.

Patrick of Ireland was actually born in England, but at sixteen years of age was captured and taken to Ireland to be a slave.  While many in our day would blame God as being unfair if that happened to them, Patrick did just the opposite.  He recognized that the heathen living of him and his neighbors had brought him this captivity.  He described their state as being,

“…quite drawn away from God, we did not keep His precepts…”

(Great Christian Classics, Kevin Swanson ed. (Generations With Vision, 2010), p. 135)

But during this time of captivity Patrick would find Continue reading

Billy Graham was a man of whom it can be said:  His was “a life well-lived!”  From the personal humility and integrity in which he walked to the incalculable impact he made in millions of lives around the globe; his, was a life “well-lived!”

Dr. Graham was converted to Christ in an evangelistic meeting in 1934 led by Dr. Mordecai Ham.  He was about sixteen years of age.  He surrendered to preach while a college student in Florida in March 1938.  His zeal to win souls to Christ knew no bounds.  And in these years he would learn the secret of being used by God.  He and a friend spent most of Sunday afternoon on the dirt floor of a garage praying for the church in which they had ministered that morning.  The church had seemed dry and unresponsive to the Lord.  After an afternoon of praying they went to a packed church that night and saw over thirty young people surrender their lives to Christ.  Billy remarked to his friend that he had Continue reading

As a teenager, I heard a recording of two sermons by a man named, Billy Graham.  Having surrendered to preach the Gospel not long before that, I was captivated by the messages and the power with which Dr. Graham delivered them.  Those messages inspired me to want to communicate the truth in a powerful way.

Later, as a twenty-year-old Pastor, I would have the privilege of attending the Billy Graham Knoxville Crusade in 1970.  There, I was blessed to serve as a counselor during the invitation times.  It was extremely moving to be on the field among those who came searching for a relationship with Jesus Christ.  During the day, I met with about 500 other preachers in the Crusade School of Evangelism, where we heard some of the greatest men of God in America share how they had led their churches to reach people with the Gospel of Christ.  It inspired me to lead other believers to become soul-winners.  Dr. Graham came and spoke to the group.  That was Continue reading
