At the Judge Kavanaugh swearing in ceremony, President Trump apologized to the Kavanaugh family for the “terrible pain and suffering” they were “forced to endure” through his confirmation process to the Supreme Court.  Despicable things were done against them.  Since then, other conservatives have been attacked physically by people who are socialists:  Ted Cruz and his wife at a restaurant; Senator Rand Paul and his wife on the street.  People on the left have said, “We will come after you…”

While this is the darkest time in our nation’s history, the light is beginning to rise. I consistently meet people who are praying with others for revival in this land, and who assure me they are also praying in their own “prayer closet” for revival. This is encouraging because, as one great man of God stated it:

“When God intends great mercy for His people, the first thing He does is set them a-praying.”

It Can Happen Again1In 1857-58 God came in revival in this nation in a remarkable way. A businessman named Jeremiah Lanphier started a noonday prayer meeting in New York City. Within a month, hundreds were praying at noon and it began to spread across the region. Some prayer meetings at noon sprang up without knowing of the New York prayer meetings. God began to move across the nation bringing hope to many who had become hopeless. The church had become so weak it couldn’t even decide if slavery was right or wrong. And whenever the Church leaves the Scripture as its standard society always goes downhill. We can always tell the strength of the Church by how much its influence controls the institutions of education, business, and civil government. Jesus said,

“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid.” (Matthew 5:14)

John MacArthur and other California Pastors have been threatened with a $1,000 fine or jail sentence because they have refused to submit to the Governor’s edict demanding churches not meet, citing the increase in China Virus cases in the state this summer.  This may be the most confrontational case with religious liberty yet, considering how well known are MacArthur’s teachings.  Those who believe this physical life is most important will stand with the California state government, which says this threatens physical health, therefore it is more important than the right to proclaim the Gospel of Christ in public.  Those who believe man is a three part being, spirit, soul, and body, must ultimately come down on the side of MacArthur and the other threatened Pastors.  It is a war “in the heavenlies” now come out openly on the earth.  It’s nothing new.  It is only new to America:  Since our Founders understood the importance of always coming down on God’s side with civil law, they secured with civil law the right of the church to carry out its mission of teaching the Gospel of Christ in public.

The Fruit Exposes the Root 1In Portland, Oregon, the riots, disguised as “free speech”, have reach the lowest degradation possible.  The left-wing looters have now burned our American Flag; and even WORSE, they have burned Bibles along with it!!  To any citizen who believes in any semblance of decency, it has to be obvious that these rioters are simply Communist pawns who are out to destroy this Republic and replace it with dictatorial government.  A government that is a true republic has to be based on the moral law of the Bible, which is summed up in the Ten Commandments.  A Communist-type government hates that law, because God’s law insists that we treat our neighbor as one who is created in the image of God.  Hence our Declaration of Independence states,

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness…” (emphasis added)

All dictatorial forms of government believe that man is the highest authority; that there is no God Who practically works “…in the affairs of men”, as Ben Franklin put it.  And the way Communist-type governments operate is that only a few men have the intelligence to be rulers:  Therefore, “the few should rule the many.”  This idea is the idea under which all worldly governments operate.  It was expressed by the Greek philosopher, Aristotle, when he wrote Continue reading

The Greatest Need in America 1With more disrespect being shown to our flag, even within our own borders, it would do us well to revisit our heritage! Fort McHenry (where in 1812 a battle raged which inspired Francis Scott Key to write The Star Spangled Banner) was named after a man who served as a medical soldier in George Washington’s army, and later signed the U.S. Constitution. His name was James McHenry. While unknown to us today, James McHenry was one of those men who laid such a firm foundation for America that during the 1800s it would grow to become the greatest nation on earth. James McHenry got his foundation from the Bible. In addition to his achievements just mentioned, he also served as a member of the Continental Congress, his state legislature, and the U.S. Secretary of War—and President of the Baltimore Bible Society! He had this to say about the Bible:

“…public [usefulness] pleads most forcibly for the general distribution of the Holy Scriptures. The doctrine they preach, the obligations they impose, the punishment they threaten, the rewards they promise…can alone secure to society, order and peace, and to our courts of justice and constitutions of government, purity, stability and usefulness.

“In vain, without the Bible, we increase penal laws and draw entrenchments around our institutions. Bibles are strong entrenchments.”

On April 19th, 1775, seventy-five American farmers faced an overwhelming force of some 600 British professional soldiers. The Americans were out-manned, out-gunned, and out-trained. And when the first shots were fired, nine of the Americans fell dead. Why were they willing to face such overwhelming odds? Were they dreamers? Were they crazy? Were they men of such noble ideas that they were willing to die for them? While they were all these things (except crazy), they had an even greater reason for resisting the King of England. They believed they were obeying the God of the Bible with their resistance. Their Congress had stated:

“Resistance to tyranny becomes the Christian…duty of each individual…Continue steadfast, and with a proper sense of your dependence on God, nobly…defend those rights which heaven gave, and no man ought to take from us.”

The fear seems to be everywhere.  The insecurity concerning their health is consuming many individuals.  There are masks everywhere.  Some surveys report that more people in certain areas have died by suicide than have died by the virus.  Is there any hope left?  Is there any place of rest from this onslaught?

God says in Psalm 91:1-3,

“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.  I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress:  my God; in him will I trust.  Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.”  This virus is a “pestilence”!

Jesus said,

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart:  and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” (Matthew 11:28-30)  We find this “rest” only when we’re surrendered to His “yoke”.

Not since the 1960s have we seen anything like the rioting in the streets we’ve seen lately.  The wave of the so-called “New Left” thinkers in that era brought that about with their socialist mantra that “America is bad; we can make a perfect world if you’ll let us have control of your lives.”  But two things stopped that socialist revolution in America.  One, we elected a President who gave back to the policemen the right to use force to stop the rioting.  Secondly, God sent a revival that impacted the nation.  That revival brought the focus of many in my generation back to God and His plan for them.  That caused many to see that the anti-God agenda of the socialists, like Saul Alinsky, was wrong—as well as impossible.  As that revival grew in understanding and numbers throughout the 1970s, Christians would go to the polls and elect Ronald Reagan as President in 1980.  President Reagan would do much to stem the tide of socialism that had been sweeping the country in the sixties.
