A shot rang out on the campus of Utah Valley University last Wednesday afternoon that is being heard around the world.  Charlie Kirk, Founder of Turning Point USA, (which seeks to win students on High School and College campuses to conservative political views) grabbed his neck where an assassin’s bullet had entered. He quickly died from the wound.

His brave young widow, Erika, would best sum up the ultimate affect of His death.  On Friday, after declaring that “they” who were responsible for Charlie’s death had no idea what they had done and that they had energized the conservative movement among young adults in this nation, she stated,  “…the movement my husband built will not die…It will become stronger. Bolder.  Louder and greater than ever.” (Fox News online; This is the Turning Point; Sept. 15, 2025)

Charlie Kirk had already had a tremendous impact on High School and Colleges campuses across America.  In just 13 years (and I believe by the Lord working through him) he had been used to start 1200 High School chapters, and 900 college chapters.  He challenged students to think through the issues of our day, instead of just letting their emotions form their ideas.  And many had embraced not only human logic, but Biblically based foundations for their ideas.  Indeed, recently, Charlie was asked what he wished to be remembered for.  Which was a question that seemed out of place for one so young; now the question almost seems prophetic.  His answer?  He wanted to be remembered for having courageous faith.  Indeed, he was bold in speaking, not only about political issues, but also witnessing for his Lord Jesus Christ.

We should carefully take in the words of the Father of our country, George Washington. In his first inaugural address he stated words of such wisdom that they should sober and inspire every one of us who are Americans. If heeded, they will inspire us to become an instrument in the hands of Almighty God for the good of our children and the entire earth.

Just after Washington took the oath of office to defend and uphold the newly written Constitution of the United States, he spoke these words of wisdom:

“We ought to be no less persuaded that the…smiles of Heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right which Heaven itself has ordained;…the preservation of the sacred fire of liberty and the destiny of the republican model of government are justly considered as…perhaps finally, staked [with] the experiment entrusted to the hands of the American people…”

Let’s look carefully at Washington’s words, since they spell out for us the way of success in the effort to pass the torch of liberty to our children.

Recently I learned that 3 Christian schools in our town were now full to capacity.  This increase is an encouraging sign for our area.  I hope it indicates that parents may be waking up to what the real effect of humanistic education is—confusion.  The battle over whether men can be in women’s bathrooms is now rampant.  It is irrefutable evidence that when you leave God out of the education curriculum and methodology the end result is confusion!  The Bible names the world system “Babylon”.  The word Babylon literally means “confusion” (just one more time when the Bible is proven to be exactly right!).  Because we have, more and more, left Biblical education in the last 80 years, we are reaping the confusion we’ve sown in America.

We simply must recognize that there is an all-out war against Christianity in our culture—and that it is been happening much longer than most realize.  In 1934, John Dewey, the father of our current education system in America, wrote of his hatred for Christianity.  He stated,

The Immigration Fix, Part 4 1

The Debate continues over illegal immigration.  The socialists in Congress, and their supporters, don’t want a wall.  The reasons they put out front is that it’s unfair to deny needy people entrance to our nation; and a wall won’t work anyway.  But are those the real reasons they want open borders?  Consider their arguments just mentioned:  If we’re going to admit people just because they are needy, then the whole world will be standing at our door.  Few nations on earth have anything like the lifestyle Americans enjoy.  Most of the world is needy compared to this nation!

Their talk that, “a Wall won’t work” is just that—TALK!  A recent example of how well a Wall does work to keep out illegals is the nation of Israel.  David Rubin, the former Mayor of the city of Shiloh in Israel, told Fox News that,

“…from 2010 to 2012, some 55,000 illegal immigrants came…through Egypt into Israel.  In a tiny nation like Israel, he said, ‘that’s a lot,’ [and] the result was that crime rocketed…where they settled…Israeli officials finally agreed to build [a] wall…and in 2016, there were only 11 illegal immigrants who entered Israel through that route…A year after…the Israeli government made security improvements to the wall and increased its height…and now, Rubin contends that the wall is virtually impenetrable by illegal immigrants…‘[T]here was not [one] illegal immigrant that made it through the southern border – not one,’ Rubin [said], referring to last year.”

John Dewey—the father of the present educational system in America—stated in his book, Living Philosophies (1930),

“There is no God, there is no soul. Hence there are no needs for…traditional religion…truth is dead…There is no room for fixed natural law or permanent moral absolutes.”

(Biblical Solutions to Contemporary Problems, R. Walton, p. 136)

With such ideas being the foundation of modern education, is it any wonder “Johnny can’t read”; and drugs, immorality, and suicide are epidemics in America’s public schools? In spite of the effort of many Christians who teach in our local schools, the devastation worsens each year. Is there any hope for public education in America? Yes! But the road back will be one of the most difficult things ever tackled.

The root of America’s education problem is that it has left the Biblical method of education. How can the Bible be restored as America’s “basic textbook in all fields”, as Noah Webster said? Only by returning the control of the public school to the local community. This means cutting it completely loose from all tax support! Get the state and federal governments out of it! Let the local community completely control it by funding it through voluntary donations. Then—and only then—will the quality of education go up again.

Will most people want to do that right now? No. So I believe some preliminary steps must first be taken.

Across America there is a growing desperation. Older citizens fear for what their grandchildren are going to face. Parents fear that their children will experience the violence of a street gang, or rapist, or satanist: Or they fear their teenage daughter may turn up pregnant. With more and more young people using drugs, parents fear their child may get hooked too. Young people fear that their parents may be the next to divorce. People are asking, “Is there anything in this world that is stable?!”

There is an answer to that question! A resounding answer: “YES!!” And you might be surprised to know that, in the past, there have been those who’ve known this stability. The Founding generation in America walked in this stability. And though they were beset with war, economic woes, and having to build a new government in the midst of all this, they still knew where the “Rock” was. They constantly turned to Jesus Christ and His Word as “the stability of their times”. They believed “His Word was truth”, as the Bible taught (John 17:17). They lived out the reality of the Scriptures as they sought to obey it in their personal lives and built it into their institutions. Daniel Webster spoke of them and their faith when he stated:

One of the men who helped to found our nation, but is almost completely unknown today, was Noah Webster.  He wrote our first dictionary, a work of twenty years in the making, which he published in 1828.  He published his Blue Backed Speller, which sold millions of copies over the following 100 years.  It was an entire learning course compacted into a small book, which the pioneers used to educate their children.  In 1832 he published his History of the United States and included a “brief exposition of the U.S. Constitution” because he wanted young people to know early that our nation was a republic, not a democracy; and that our Founders got the ideas for its purpose, structure, and spirit of operation from the Bible.  Keep in mind that when he uses the term republican, he’s not talking about a political party, but rather a particular form of government.

He stated it this way:

“The brief exposition of the constitution of the United States, will unfold to young persons the principles of republican government; and it is the sincere desire of the writer that our citizens should early understand that the genuine source of correct republican principles is the Bible, particularly the New Testament…”

This day in time we really need to look back and see the Hand of God in our history in this nation. Let’s review a segment of our history that is not commonly known.

While the Pilgrims and Puritans were establishing themselves in New England, a giant step toward human liberty was occurring in Scotland. In 1638 the King of England was trying to force Roman Catholicism on the Scots. For years the Scots had been more and more throwing off this yoke, and they were not about to submit to what they believed were satanic rituals that would plunge them back into the slavery of the “dark ages”.

Thus, they came together in a covenant (which means the meeting of minds) vowing to fight to the death to refuse Catholic tyranny in their churches and civil government. Over 3,200 people signed the original document—many signing it in their own blood—saying we will die rather than live as slaves to a government that won’t submit to the moral law of God.

Is there any good reason that we should study history? Do documents like The Declaration of Independence and The Constitution hold any significance for us today? They most certainly do! Number one, God tells us in the Bible to “Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations…” (Deuteronomy 32:7) He wants us to understand that history is “His-Story”. What He taught a previous generation He wants us to bring into our generation. That with which satan enslaved a previous generation, God wants us to get free of. But if we don’t know history, how can we keep the good and remove the bad? Since all of us start life in this world with a sin-root in our thinking (Romans 5:12), we will tend to move toward satan’s enslavement in our society unless we know what God taught previous generations. This is why God taught the Jews that their education system must be the channel through which the parents teach their children His ways. This is what President Woodrow Wilson reminded us when he stated:

“A nation which does not remember what it was yesterday, does not know what it is today, nor what it is trying to do….”

History is for our instruction; let us not be so arrogant as to dismiss it as unimportant. Our Declaration of Independence listed 27 reasons the King of England had given us to declare our independence from his rule.   Let us consider some more of those reasons so we can learn from our history how to avoid the political slavery from which our Founders were escaping.
