In the Bible there is a wonderful story which teaches us how to fix disordered government with methods God has established.  A wicked woman, Athaliah, had stolen the throne of Judah and proclaimed herself queen over the realm.  For six years she reigned by oppression and terror.  But a faithful man of God, Jehoiada the priest, had hidden the true king, the young boy Jehoash, from the wicked queen.  We pick up the story recorded in 2 Kings 11,

Judge Roy Moore Demonstrates Interposition1“And the seventh year Jehoiada sent and fetched the rulers over hundreds, with the captains and the guard…and took an oath of them in the house of the LORD, and showed them the king’s son…And he brought forth the king’s son, and put the crown upon him, and gave him the testimony; and they made him king, and anointed him; and they clapped their hands, and said, ‘God save the king’…And Jehoiada made a covenant between the LORD and the king and the people, that they should be the LORD’S people; between the king also and the people.”

In this story we see God’s authority in one realm (the realm of the church) joining with those in lesser authority in civil government (that is, the army) to restore the rightful king to his throne. Continue reading

On February 9th, 2016, a group of Kentucky Legislators revealed the shenanigans of politics by politicians instead of government being operated by statesmen.  Senate Bill Christians-Stand Up in Government17 would have stopped Kentucky tax dollars from going to that dastardly organization which is misleadingly named “Planned Parenthood”Planned Parenthood probably commits more abortions across this nation that any other single organization which does abortions.  The bill to defund Kentucky’s Planned Parenthood was stuck in a House committee, so advocates presented what is called a procedural bill in order to bring SB 7 to the House floor for an “up or down” vote.  The vote to bring out SB 7 so it could be voted on went like this:

  • 47 voted for SB 7 to come to the House Floor for an up or down vote.
  • 10 voted against it coming to the Floor.
  • 39 did not vote at all!!

When no vote is cast at all in the Legislature that inaction is counted as a vote against the bill.  Continue reading

Some years back, I had a very revealing conversation with a Pastor. This good man, who believes and preaches the Bible to be the truth, had served as a school board member in his community for many years. Finally, he lost an election by one vote! I Christians Stand Up for Your Children - VOTEwonder how many good Christian people wished they had gone to the polls to vote in that election, instead of doing something they thought was more important! They counted on others to protect their children by re-electing him, while others counted on them! Every election in America sees 3/4 of the people who say they are committed to the Bible not show up at the polls to vote. Evangelicals could easily elect Biblically thinking people if they would vote for the Biblical values they say they believe. They could even elect a third party candidate—If they would register to vote and vote for Biblical values! The people of God who do not vote are responsible for the devastating slide of our nation toward dictatorship.

James A. Garfield, our 20th President, warned us in 1876,

“If the next centennial does not find us a great nation…it will be because those who represent…the morality of the nation (i.e., the Church) do not aid in controlling the political forces.” Continue reading

The ship rode the waves in Cape Cod Bay in a restless sort of way. The voyage just completed had lasted 66 days. The last six weeks had been in unbelievable storms. At one point, the Mayflower had nearly gone to the bottom. Only by a miracle was a Say not to the Elitists-Vote1broken beam repaired with a tool that was supposed to have been left on the dock in England. There were other difficulties and the hard voyage had left the Pilgrims sea-weary and sick. And yet, before they got off the ship, a document had to be written and agreed upon by all those who would be making their home in America. The document would come to be known as The Mayflower Compact. It declared the laws they would live by and how they would be governed. Common men established their own government, and those governmental principles make America the oldest living Republic in world history.

This government form was not new to the Pilgrims, though it was not the form of government used in their previous homeland. They were familiar with it because it was their form of church government. Their Pastor, John Robinson, had taught it to them from the Bible and they had walked in this type of government in their church for 15 years. Now all who agreed on the form of civil government they would use, and the laws by which it would be operated, should be allowed an equal voice in it. They believed this because they had discovered Continue reading

Liberty Has Lost a Friend1Saturday, America lost one of her best friends of liberty. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia was found dead at a West Texas resort. Appointed by President Reagan, Scalia was respected by both friend and foe on the Court. His ability to reason from the original intent of the Constitution by America’s Founders made him one of the best ever Supreme Court Judges. His ability to dismantle liberal, “smokescreen” arguments made him the feared enemy of liberal attorneys. He was one of two great champions on the Court for the truth of the Biblical positions on life in the womb, marriage, and religious liberty. With Scalia, the law, as our Founders gave it, applied to all. He literally changed the direction the court had been going before his appointment in the mid 1980’s by exposing the foolishness of interpreting law by what was called “legislative history.” His aim was always to stand by the Founders’ original intent for the Constitution. Few attorneys think like him today. It will take a work from God to give someone like him to fill his place on the Court. Let us pray for the Scalia family and others who were friends. Their loss is great. Let us likewise pray Continue reading

Thomas Sowell is one of my favorite political analysts, and the fact that he happens to be of African descent makes his exposing of Mr. Obama’s lies even more pertinent. He gave a glowing analysis of Mr. Obama’s theatrical performance last month when he announced his executive orders to further control gun ownership. I want to quote from Mr. Sowell extensively today because he lays out in such simple terms the foolishness of gun control. He writes,

Obama's Gun Control Invites More Killings1“Those who have been marveling at Donald Trump’s political showmanship were given a reminder of who is the top showman of them all, when…Barack Obama went on television to make a pitch for his unilateral actions to restrict gun sales and make a more general case for tighter gun-control laws…As political theater, it put Donald Trump’s rantings in the shade…As for the substance of what Obama said, there was very little substance, and much of it false…

“Like most other gun-control advocates, President Obama invoked scenes of mass shootings, as if what he is proposing would have prevented those tragedies. But, almost invariably, mass shootings occur in gun-free settings. Yet gun-control zealots seem determined to create more gun-free settings… Continue reading

Mr. Obama is at it again. Using the several attacks by gunmen across the nation last More Gun Control by Obama1year as his reason, he is reportedly about to issue an executive order which would further strip from us our right to have weapons to defend ourselves. Aside from the fact he is violating the Constitution by issuing executive orders to do what only our Congress would have the power to do (and that only if the people approved an amendment against guns which the Congress had drafted) Mr. Obama is disagreeing with the Bible in trying to disarm the citizens of this nation. Secondly, he is disagreeing with our Founding Fathers on whether we have the right to bear arms as citizens. And thirdly, he is siding with dictators like Adolf Hitler, when he works to disarm us.

So what does the Bible say about the right to defend one’s body against an attacker? On the night Jesus was arrested, He told his disciples, Continue reading

Covenant-The Foundation of the Declaration1Why can’t we fix the immigration problem in America? Why can’t we teach the Bible in our schools anymore? Why do we keep losing jobs to foreign countries? Believe it or not, these great issues in America all root in the same problem. That problem is: We no longer understand the Biblical concept of covenant.

The word “covenant”, as defined in America’s first dictionary (Webster’s 1828 Dictionary of the American Language), means “the meeting of minds.” Covenant means that two or more people think enough alike to be able to enter into a binding agreement to walk together to accomplish a certain task. Admittedly, this is not an easy thing to do. Because of our sin in the Garden of Eden we think our own thoughts and generally do not want anyone else to challenge that thinking. The Bible shows the ultimate result of our refusal to submit to the life of God is that:

“…everyone [does] what [is] right in his own eyes.”

(Judges 21:25)

Since the root of sin in each of us insists on its own way, we cannot Continue reading

Matt Bevin, the new Governor of Kentucky, kicked off his Administration in a very refreshing way. A church service, initially planned for the Buck Run Baptist Church, had to be moved to the Frankfort Convention center because of the size of the crowd. In that meeting several Bible-believing Pastors spoke and led in prayers for the new Governor, his family, and his Administration. Herschel York, Pastor at Buck Run, stated that Bevin is:

A Good Beginning1“…the governor of people of all faiths, or no faith, but he is unquestionably, openly, [by confession] a man of deep faith, specifically a faith in Jesus Christ.”

To have Jesus’ Name openly acknowledged and owned by a Governor in these United States is wonderfully refreshing! Bevin’s Pastor Emeritus, Bob Russell, stated,

“I want us to pray that God would grant [him] wisdom every day, to make daily choices from the vantage point of God.”

Russell said the wisdom Bevin needs to lead Kentucky comes from meditating on God’s Word, drawing from experience, choosing wise Continue reading
