Do we Americans live in the land of the free; or the land of political slavery?  Political slavery, or socialism, means that the few who administer civil government tell the rest of us what to do.  To determine if we live in political slavery:

  • Ask a parent if they can spank their child without fear of the government removing the child from them;
  • Ask a school teacher if they can choose their own curriculum;
  • Ask a physician if they can choose the type of medicine, therapy, or hospital, by which they care for their patients;
  • Ask a business owner if he can operate without first consulting government as to his location, pay for employees, and tools he uses;
  • Ask a church if they can building a building, or parking lot, without first asking government about septic systems, phone taxes, employee taxes, fire prevention restrictions, etc.;
  • Ask an individual how long he works each year just to pay the government what he is taxed. Let me answer that one for you: 30% of their work year!!

It wasn’t working.  The spring of 1623 saw the Pilgrims into their third year in America.  But there was a serious problem.  They were hungry:  And because of it they had no energy with which to plow their fields and plant their crops.  They knew winter would come again and with it death by starvation if they didn’t go to the fields.  Yet many of them just seemed unable to get themselves moving.

The Economy of the Pilgrims-2Recognizing the seriousness of their situation, their Governor, William Bradford, called for a meeting of the leaders of the colony.  They didn’t have to discuss their problem very long until they pinpointed what was wrong:  It was the socialistic economy they were trying to labor under.  They had long known this.  The businessmen who had financed their trip had insisted they live by a common storehouse.  In other words, they were to put all their produce into one storehouse, no matter which family had raised that produce.  Then, they were to take out as little as they could get by with for their own needs, and send the rest of it back to England to their financiers as payment for their debt.  The Pilgrims knew this would not work, but the businessmen insisted this is how they must do it.  The Pilgrims knew the Scripture taught that, “If any would not work, neither should he eat” (2 Thessalonians 3:10).   And they knew that even Christian people, like themselves, had to know they could “reap what they sowed” if they were to produce well.   However, they felt they had no choice.  They had to Continue reading

To any honest, diligent student of history it is obvious that the generation of America’s Founders was one of (if not the) wisest generations that ever walked this earth. The Republic they gave birth to would rival the greatest nations on earth after only fifty years. Many political thinkers would come here just to try to find the secret of the genius of this Republic. Since then, probably more people have, of their own free will, immigrated here than to any other nation on earth; which shows us the greatness of what they created.

When Fathers and Mothers, and Teachers in school do not live by and teach the Bible to children, they give away the liberty of a nation.  The end result:  The people of the nation become slaves to a dictator.  Noah Webster, the premier educator of our early Republic, summed it up like this:

“All the miseries and evils which men suffer from vice, crime, ambition, injustice, oppression, slavery and war, proceed from their despising or neglecting the precepts contained in the Bible.”

Polls the last few days reveal that seventy-eight percent of Americans are dissatisfied with this present national government.  The tremendous move toward socialism is now producing what it always produces:  A falling economy and dissatisfaction among the people.

Attempting Biblical Reformation 1What should we do?  Why not return to the roots of America?  Why not return to the Biblical thinking of our Founders concerning education, economy, and government?  Indeed, the way we educate is what produces the kind of government we have.  Abraham Lincoln said it plainly:

“The philosophy of the school room in one generation will be the philosophy of government in the next.”

When the Pilgrims came here in 1620, they had learned some things that recent generations have had stolen from them. For instance, they had come to understand that the basis of the government is covenant. No state can exist very long if its citizens are not in covenant with each other.

The word covenant is defined as “a meeting or agreement of minds”. The minds of a people living under a particular government must be in agreement on the basics of life if they are to be able to walk together throughout the generations.

They must agree about Who God is, and who He says they are, and what His plan for them is, both as individuals and a nation. Without this agreement, education, commerce, and government just become Continue reading

The Pilgrims landed in America nearly 400 years ago. But do you know why they came to America? Was it to start a new life? Well, yes; but what kind of life? Was it so they could be free? Well, yes; but what kind of freedom were they looking for? Because most of us don’t know the answer to these questions is why we continue to accept—or even vote for—more and more of the slavery from which they were fleeing.

Perhaps you would say, “They came here for religious freedom.” And you would be right—but, what kind of religious freedom? Did they come merely so they could sing songs to God and study the Bible in their own gatherings? No, they came with a much broader desire than that.
