The Bible says in Exodus 18:21,
“Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers…”
The Scripture gives us the standard as to what government rulers are to be like. They are to “fear God” and be “men of truth.” They must respect God as Creator and be committed to the truth of the Scripture, as well as being truthful in their own heart. While they are to be “able men,” that is be competent in their government task, much more important is their character. Do they live a Godly life because they know they will stand before God and give an account to Him for their actions in office as well as in all other areas of life? This will cause them to spend as little of the people’s tax money as possible and to gladly expose the records of those expenditures.
Likewise, the people who vote must accept their responsibility before God to choose men who will meet these Biblical standards. Our Founders in America taught that we will always get the kind of people in office who reflect our character as a whole people. It is as William Penn said,
“Government, like clocks, go from the motion men give them…Let men be good, and the government cannot be bad…But if men be bad, let the government be ever so good, they will endeavor to warp and spoil it to their turn.”

If government is corrupt it is because we accept corruption. If government be moving us toward dictatorship, it is because we accept that willingly or ignorantly.
The truth is, in recent elections, 75% of Americans who say they are born again Christians haven’t even gone to the polls to vote! That’s 75 million people! Is it any wonder we’re about to loose the precious liberty God has entrusted to us?
Will you change that by going to the polls and voting for candidates who stand nearest to the Bible on issues? Pastor, will you urge your people to do this?
Remember, we all stand before God and give an account for if we voted, and how we voted!
