What Is a Children’s Heritage Day?
It is a teaching time during which we help children (ages 6-12) understand the purpose of God for their life and the life of their nation. They memorize a number of verses while being taught an overview of history from Creation to the Founding of America. Central to this is the story of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. They also memorize several Founding Father statements which help them realize the Biblical thinking of America’s Founders. They likewise are introduced to the notebook method of learning which was so important to education in early America. Below are some samples of notes taken by children during a Children’s Heritage Day:
Children’s workers are given tools and taught how to re-enforce in future children’s meetings what the children have learned during the Children’s Heritage Day.
A Children’s Heritage Day is generally about 4 hours long and can be done anytime children are available. Most churches do them on Saturday afternoon during the school year, but any “vacation” day can also work.
Why Do Children’s Heritage Days?
Because God has a great plan for the life of each child; because of His investment in each life, He deserves for that life to glorify Him.
Because our children are being destroyed for “…lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge…Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.” (Hosea 4:6)
Because…
- Truth (the Scripture; from which we learn: Who God is; who we are; and what His plan for us is—beginning with the New Birth) produces…
- Morality; which produces…
- Right Civil Law; which protects the right of the next generation to know Truth and develop Morality. This encourages…
- Education; and if done according to Scripture, will teach this to children; which will produce…
- Liberty for the next generation to hear the Truth.
- Truth, taught in each generation, will produce…
- A proper self-image (God’s view of us: Our worth is based on the fact He created us and redeemed us.), which produces…
- Biblically “walking” churches (people in the church living according to the Scripture) produce people who…
- Work (Productivity) out of His gifting and calling. People who work according to His gifting and calling create…
- Good Families; which will produce…
- Good Communities; which will produce…
- Good States; which will produce a…
- Good Nation.
Thus, to see America restored to a Biblically thinking and witnessing nation,
we must first teach the children!!!
