Recently three different Pastors told me of disgraceful incidents in which Kentucky Governor, Matt Bevin, had difficulty in speaking to a group because of “hecklers” in the crowd he was addressing. In one of those incidents, the media reported the Governor just had to leave the stage without being able to say hardly anything. Another Pastor told me he was saddened and embarrassed by people in his community whose language toward the Governor was certainly not civil, let alone Christian. But the third experience was almost beyond belief. At a Pro-Life rally in Frankfort, Kentucky’s Capitol, again there were “hecklers” who rudely spoke up to interrupt the Governor’s remarks. These “hecklers”, who claimed to be representing the teachers of Kentucky concerning the pension plan crisis here, were asked later why they would interrupt such a solemn gathering, the aim of which was to save children from being murdered in their mother’s womb. Their weak answer was that they didn’t know it was a Pro-Life rally. Yet, there were banners and signs all around which made it plain to everyone what this gathering was. This is simply uncivilized behavior in the civil realm! I’m only glad to say I do not believe that this kind of behavior is approved of by most of the teachers in this state.
We should have very strong feelings concerning political issues; because they affect the right of our children to get to hear, and walk in, the Gospel of Jesus Christ. But the Biblical way to address those issues is in a controlled setting of debate. Either controlled by our own will (under the Holy Spirit’s control), or controlled by the structure and judge of a political forum. There is a Christian base to Robert’s Rules of Order. Indeed order, in every area of life, is God’s idea. God says in the Bible:
“Let all things be done decently and in order.” (1 Corinthians 14:40)
And in Governor Bevin’s defense: I doubt we’ve had a Governor in my lifetime who has done so much to defend the life of the unborn child in the womb. And that issue, along with religious liberty, are the two most important issues of our day. And in the previous administration, under the leadership of Governor Steve Beshear, and Speaker of the House, Greg Stumbo, we didn’t see one Pro-Life bill passed in Kentucky for eight years! And in those years absolutely nothing was done to stop the onslaught of the homosexual movement in Kentucky. And now it should be obvious to any honest observer that the main fruit of that movement is to destroy religious liberty; meaning, destroying the flow of the Gospel of Christ in public to the next generation. Governor Bevin has been strong and vocal about His commitment to Christ; issuing forth in his signature attached to Pro-Life bills, and bills that defend students’ rights to give expression to their faith in the schools; the latter being a strong “push-back” against the homosexual agenda. Like all us—his critics included—Matt Bevin is not a perfect man. And he has probably made some mistakes in dealing with those yelling in his face almost constantly. But could you, or I—or his critics—handle those constant tirades any better if we were in his position? I doubt it!
So shouldn’t we try to fix Kentucky’s pension deficit, left by previous administrations, without letting floods of angry insults gush from our mouths? Or could it be that those yelling the loudest don’t really care if the pension is fixed—as long as they get to stay in control?
Think about it; because if you don’t, someone else will do your thinking for you—and for your children! And you won’t like what that brings to you. I’m Don Pinson; this has been Think About It.
