Noah Webster, the Father of America’s original education method, wrote to young people in his U.S. History textbook the following admonition:

“When you become entitled to exercise the right of voting for public officers, let it be impressed on your mind that God commands you to choose for rulers ‘just men who will rule in the fear of God.’ The preservation of [the government of a republic] depends on the faithful discharge of this duty.

“If [the government of a republic] fails to secure public prosperity and happiness, it must be because the citizens neglect the divine commands, and elect bad men to make and administer the laws.”

Voting is not an option for born-again people.  If we claim to know Jesus Christ as our Lord, we are commanded by God to vote—and God tells us what kind of men we are to vote for!  When God formed the government of the Jewish nation, He commanded His people to,

“Take you wise men, and understanding, and known among your tribes, and I will make them rulers over you.”

(Deuteronomy 1:13)

God told His people through Moses that they were to “choose (or we would say “vote for”) wise men whom you know, and I will make them rulers over you.”  Since God created civil government, He reserves the right to empower those chosen by the people to be rulers.  They are God’s ministers of civil law designed to punish the “evil-doer” and to encourage “the one who does well” (1 Peter 2:14).  This is the call of government servants, and they will give an account to God at the Judgment for how they conduct themselves while in office, as well as how they operate the office which is entrusted to them.  But we, the citizens, will also give an account to God for if we voted and how we voted.

But some people say, “There’s just no one worth voting for so I’m not gon’na vote.” Number one, God does not require candidates for office to be perfect, only that they be “God-fearing” people (Exodus 18:21).  And if the top two candidates for an office are neither one “God-fearing” individuals, you can vote for a “third-party” candidate or you can write in someone’s name who is a God-fearing person—even if they haven’t said they are running.  In this way we always have an option by which we can vote with a clear conscience.  But secondly, in a presidential election there are always lots of other Congressional, State, and local elections in which we need to vote.  And we desperately need to realize that local and state races are infinitely more important than national races.  We have been taught differently in the last 80 years in America, but we have been taught wrong!!  Government is designed by God to operate from the “bottom up,” not the “top down.”  This is what makes local and state races so much more important than presidential races.  It is way past time for us to return to the states the power stolen from them by Washington!!

If we will start doing our voting God’s way again, along with repenting of our many other sins, then we can look up into His face and say with a repentant, pure, heart, “Father, please grant us Your Revival and Reformation.”  I believe if we will repent He will do exactly what He says:  “…forgive our sin, and heal our land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)

Will you register to vote and then go vote Biblical values in November?
