Do you feel fear for the direction our nation is going?  Do the socialistic policies of our national government bring fear of oppression, perhaps imprisonment or death?  Let me encourage you that none of this takes the Lord by surprise.  Being the Alpha and Omega, He sees the end from the beginning.

Last May (’11), I was at the National Day of Prayer in Washington, DC.  The worship leader was encouraging the crowd to say aloud to the Lord the words from Ps. 93:1- “The Lord Reigns.”  As I was looking up toward the Lord and repeating this phrase, “The Lord Reigns,” I could see out of the corner of my eye to the right the white dome of the Capitol building rotunda.  I was thinking how that His Word was reminding us that He rules over what happens inside that building.  He rules over every law being debated, over every committee meeting, over every conversation—even the ones where scheming is done with the aim of turning us to socialism.  Deep in my heart, as I was thinking these thoughts and saying to Him, “The Lord Reigns,” I distinctly heard the Lord say to me (in a bold tone),  “And don’t you forget it!”  It was so distinct, it jarred me.  But as I thought on it, I realized He was simply encouraging me (and I hope you, now that you’ve heard it) with this reminder that He is in control.  No matter what is done in Washington or any other seat of government, He is still in control! He is still Lord!

This morning, He led me to Psalms 83:18,  “That men may know that You, whose name alone is JEHOVAH  [LORD], art the most high over all the earth.”  Let’s remember that He rules:  He sets up kings and He takes down kings, as the prophet Daniel said in Daniel 5:21.  While this in no way relieves us of our responsibility to know what’s happening in government, nor of us voting for candidates that stand nearest to the Bible on issues, it does give us a foundation for believing that God is “working all things after the counsel of His will.”  It gives us assurance that He will “shelter” (Joel 3:16) those who follow Him in these days, and through them, live His life “out loud” in this world.

If He’s the Lord of your life, rejoice in Him today that He is in control of your nation as well!
